He doesn't look like his has much ring IQ at all. Hes very basic and his style is basically just setting up the right hand. Good athlete though.
I'm yet to see anything too impressvie from him either. He looks almost too big and stiff, robotic almost. Looks very open to the right hand counter too so there's a lot of work to be done on him. It's fairly evident though that he has power and a very good attitude towards the sport so at 24, or whatever age he is, he certainly has a lot of potential. It's going to be very interesting to see how he progresses but what won't help him IMO is the way sky are putting a lot of pressure on him, building him up to be a superstar. He's only a couple of fights in, let the guy learn his trade a bit before building him up like that, there's plenty of time to build a PPV star if he is indeed good enough. It's heavyweight boxing at the end of the day, one good shot could derail his career and when there's such big expectations it only makes that possibilty all the worse if it happens. Just let the young man do his thing and when he racks up some good wins, hype him up all you like. Sure it's the hype that has him already being compared to Lennox, that's very unfair on a young man IMO. Fact is he will most likely will never be anywhere near as good as Lennox and there's no shame in that. As I say though, very interesting to see how it goes but I have some doubts, just my opinion.
Vitali's gone and by the time Joshua starts knocking on the door for a world title Wlad will be holed up in Barbados loving life so he's come on the scene at the right time. Definitely think he'll win a world title, bags of potential.
In boxing you can only work with the tools you have, Anthony Joshua has many. Speed, strength, skill, power........potential he can go far. No need to rush him, keep feeding him fights and let him improve. Yes there will be questions over his chin, but any heavyweight who gets hit clean can be put over. Joshua was very fortunate at the Olympics. Felix Savon, the Cuban, ouboxed him in the first round and dropped a bad decision. Joshua was fairly lucky in the final as well, certainly did not box like a winner, the Italian was hard done by the judges in the final. As a young heavyweight prospect though, there is a lot to like about Joshua, he should get to world level, then it will depend what other fighters are around at the time.
After seeing him live the most impressive thing for me was his hand speed, very quick hands for a guy that size. His straight shots are thrown with good technique & he is reasonably mobile. Joshua is still a bit mechanical but has a great foundation to build on.
I don't see anything special about Joshua. He was hitting air most of the time until Darch gassed (Darch was quite elusive though, that has to be said). His power isn't that destructive as some say either. All in all, he's very raw. IMO Tyson Fury is better and will fare better than Joshua.
Nothing special, but then again who is in this division after the brothers grim... Would fancy him to at least get into contention for a title in 2/3years
he'll at the very least challenge for a world title belt I think would that be considered him delivering if he did ?.....or would he have to win? its funny how being good at something can be a negative in some ways....will he be considered a failure if he doesnt win a world title??....after being an olympic champ and challeging for a world title.......which begs the question...how much of a failure was audley....really ??
Watching Lennox early on in his pro career, he did not seem to have 'it'. He looked like a novice... Well he was! And he turned out fine in the end. It is way to early to make definite judgements about Joshua. Give it another dozen fights and then some judgements can be made, backed up with some evidence...
