Will Danny Garcia be as big as De Jesus/Cotto/Trinidad in Puerto Rico?

However winning tends to bring about false loyalty so who knows....

 

If he can land a Tim Bradley, Marquez fight at 140 or a porter fight at 147 maybe he can start being mentioned along side those legends.

Tito had 15 title defenses at 147 one if the greatest 147 runs ever defeating ATG oscar and sweet pea.

Garcia has a long way to go before he reaches titos status!

Now cotto he can reach that level if he stays at 140 for three more defenses try and unify 140 get the WBo champ in the ring next show dominance!

Then in 2015 face Floyd at 147 in his last fight
! That to me would elevate him or show how limited he is!

 

He's young so if he keeps winning and sports a little flag on his trunks, the whole country will get panty soup for Garcia.

 

It would be pretty funny if they began claiming him, given the general antipathy shown to mainland boricuas. :yep

Hell, even Cotto had a difficult time winning over his fan base. Some will recall that most of the blue collar demographic that makes up the core of the PR fight nuts were rooting hard for Carlos Quintana, humble gas station attendant, to knock pampered full-time boxer Cotto (whose family, well-off before he got into boxing, owns a chain of gas stations ) out cold.

García with his cushy and distinctively American lifestyle might rub some islanders wrong (though he did spend his childhood in the Philly ghetto, with Angel locked up a while for slinging yeyo :-() but he wisely has laid the groundwork to ingratiate himself with them by diplomatically paying lip-service to both his PR forebears and his Philly ones, citing Carlos Ortiz as his idol along with the likes of Joe Frazier. He also found himself a nice boriqa gal in Erica Mendez, though she is blanca, not morena...but she's a cutie.
