Thre American Ambassador was talked of seriously as a presidential candidate, he must have had support.
I never denied anything, I said there was no compelling evidence. There was a gallup poll taken in the US in Feb1941 54% were in favour of Lend Lease , that means an awful lot were not. The US got cash on the nail for goods until GB's gold ran out [1941,] they then negotiated ships for US bases in the UK.

    Nobody got something for nothing.

"WW2: After its experiences in WW1, most Americans were totally against getting involved in any further European conflicts. In the 1920's America had retreated back into isolation, and most of the people were only too glad to remain that way. Franklin Roosevelt was interested in helping Britain survive, and signed the Lend Lease Act; whereby the USA leased British bases all over the world, and Britain was lent American destroyers with which to prosecute the war, and also US cargo ships for their convoys.
However, it took the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour on Sunday December 7th 1941 for the Americans to be brought into the conflict wholeheartedly. Even then, they may have completely concentrated their attention on the Pacific theatre and left Europe to the British, if Hitler had not declared war on the USA on December 8th, the day after Pearl Harbour. Hitler was extremely angry that the Japanese High Command had not given him any advance warning of the attack on Pearl Harbour; had they done so, the German U-boat wolf-packs could have been in the best position to attack American shipping and do a lot of damage, as a double-edged surprise attack.
Again, the contribution of American troops to the war effort was absolutely vital for the winning of the war; it was the vast influx of American soldiers that allowed the Allies to consider the possibility of an invasion of the Continent as early as 1944. Had the US not been involved, WW2 could have possibly lasted several more years, because the British Empire on its own would have taken a lot longer to get the number of troops together to launch an attack on France. "

    A couple of years late?
    WW1 lasted 4 years 3 months and 7 days.
The USA was involved for 1 year 7 months and 5 days.

    WW2 lasted 5 years,11 months and 14 days
The USA was involved for 3 years 8 months and 8 days.

Kennedy's Germanophilia was not the reason he had support. He was no more representative of American opinion than...oh, let's say Edward VIII's opinions on Germany were representative of the average Englishman's.

Then you and I have a very different idea of compelling evidence. The Americans were shooting at the German armed forces and pumping resources into Britain.

Note the date. Almost a year had passed between this incident and Pearl Harbor.

Also, note that "46% disapproved of Lend-Lease" doesn't translate to "46% favored Germany". Isolationism was an important movement in the United States. Pro-Nazi sentiments were the fringe. (Like Oswald Mosley was on fringe in Britain, for instance...)

And after Britain had run out of gold/nicknacks/bases to trade, America kept giving Britain stuff. Lend-Lease was a losing proposition financially.

Later on it certainly was. They dropped the pretense as Britain lost the ability to pay for it.

WWI is irrelevant to this discussion.

So yes, almost exactly a couple years late.

I didnt point the finger in the first place I mentioned their faults to show a pot kettle situation. They are not "his historical figures", they, like Churchill were political, leaders of their country

I have a high regard for FDR ,and a prettty good one of JFK ,and Clinton.

The point was what Mendoza said about Ukrainian Slavs.I merely pointed out that they were utilised as guards and executioners in most of the Death Camps.
If their fate would have eventually been to follow those victims into the ovens, I would not be crying.

This is his MO Cross-Trainer. Always has been. It can be a boxer too. If I fairly make points that do not coincide with his rooting interests, he will always muddy the waters and add new names into the conversation.

I'm not Ukrainian. For your sake just hope I do not go off tangent like you do.

How about England's harsh treatment to their colonies? Do you want to talk about what some of their kings and queens did to enforce their yoke? I think not.

I'm heartily glad to see the return of the lounge, even if it is a bit surreptitious.
