I keep hearing about how Ward had the ref "in his pocket" for the championship of the super six. I keep hearing about how the fight was "actually really close" even though in the three times I've watched it I only see a TREMENDOUS Rigondeaux-esque boxing lesson given to a comparatively low skill fighter. I keep hearing about how it was a "hometown" fight for Ward despite being literally on the opposite corner of the US, nearly as far from his home as Froch. My question is, if the ref was such a deciding factor in the Ward-Froch fight, why are these same people not complaining about the ATROCIOUS ref job from the Froch-Dirrell fight? Surely they can see the clear bias that went on there? I look forward to your opinions.
Honestly I went into the Dirrell fight routing for him, he looked to have great speed slick style and I thought he would beat Froch Watched the fight and well with the point deductions the first time i watched it i scored it 114-113 to Froch. Dirrell just held too much, complained and whined rather than actually fighting and had he manned up and stuck it out he would have pulled it off but he couldnt. Dirrell is a great fighter when things are going his way but as soon as theres some resistance he folds Nothing wrong with what happened in Nottingham and Dirrells careers since shows that
There was nothing wrong with Smoger in Ward vs Froch. Some people seem to think that inside fighting should be banned altogether when it works against their favorite fighter. Smoger gave both fighters time to work out of the clinches(which they didn't have many of) and if anything he was generous to Froch who landed a very clear after-the-bell shot in one round and had thrown some shots that were borderline late in other rounds. By contrast, Hector Afu did a terrible job in Froch vs Dirrell, though I will say at least while he clearly favored Froch, my main criticism is that he let the fight get out of control in general with the holding and fouling. Dirrell was horrific in terms of fighting very negatively and clinching constantly, while a frustrated Froch rabbit-punched and quasi-body slammed Dirrell to try and get to him since regular punching wasn't getting it done. What Afu should have done was deduct points from both fighters early on to try and stop the madness before it really got going, and we might have gotten a decent fight. Instead he only deducted a point from the man less deserving of the deduction(Dirrell), very late in the fight where it looked like your classic hometown move, and never got control of the fight, resulting in a very boring and ugly affair.
I thought the ref was good in Ward-Froch fight? Well at least I don't remember him being particularly bad anyways. So I go with Dirrell fight.
I've never seen a post on this forum, where anybody criticised the refereeing in the Ward vs Froch fight. Ward won the fight clearly and relatively cleanly, there was nobody suggesting that him and/or the ref cheated Froch. More trolling from ESB's resident idiot.
There have been PLENTY of posts talking about a "neutral" referee who would punish ward for "incessant clinching". Open your eyes.
No one complained about the scoring of ward vs froch, ward won clearly. You don't like froch, we get it slyk, now move on with your life.
That was one of the rare instances there was a good (non partial) referee in a Ward fight. The ref in the Green fight might have been the worst, that was just pathetic, and everyone remembers the Kessler fight of course.
