Not a big enough draw atm, simple as that. A couple more big wins, then sure. By that time Floyd could be retired. I doubt the fight ever happens and it wont be anyone's fault, just bad timing, Thurman's career is just getting going and Mayweather's is coming to an end.

If Broner beat Maidana no doubt he woulda fought Floyd because they knew he was getting a loss if he fought someone else

Maidana is coming off a big win so let him fight Floyd in May then Khan fights once before September then he can fight Floyd then

Thing is Khan and goldenboy know Khan will lose to most people at 147, thats why I dont want him to get the fight let him beat someone at 147 then get it in September

Khan or Maidana would actually be a step up for Thurman, in terms of names and class. All this he should fight Mayweather talk, is only because of his KO%. He, like everyone else, other than Paulie Malinaggi, has a puncher's chance, and that is it. Porter would be a step up. Alexander even. Bradley would be a huge step up...Manny Pacquiao, as well.

Because, when he goes in and gets outboxed by Floyd, as everyone does, the little bit of hype he has will fizzle, and he will be in rebound mode and labeled a hype job. It's actually Paulie he's chasing for a fight, right now, which would be a good test for him.

I agree. Give One Time a shot. He has been far more impressive and was infinitely better against Soto Karass then either Maidana or Berto, whom have both been considered for Mayweather opponents. I'm not positive on the facts but I wouldn't be surprised if the plug got pulled on the Maidana vs Thurman fight because the handlers thought Thurman was going to kick his ass.

Yeah he's young but so what? That's what boxing needs, guys going for it all. Maybe the heavyweight division wouldn't be as boring as it is if guys actually went for broke instead of feasting on washed up fighters like Rahman and company. This sport is becoming a joke if the only reason to fight the best fighter is if you're cashing out like in Khan's case, the guy has virtually done nothing but fight in these meaningless contests and sitting on the sidelines waiting for a Mayweather fight.

One Time wants the best fights out there, and the worst case scenario is losing a decision. Heck they're giving Alvarez a PPV after a loss so it is far from the end of the road if he lost. Most boxing fans have short memories, all he would need to do is beat a name and be right back in the mix.

So what if his hype fizzles out (not even a certainty) how much was that hype worth to begin with then? This new model of boxing management just promotes and encourages hype jobs.

Thurman is good, but not good enough yet to take on the top guy. Both Khan and Mandina in my opinion are not ready for Floyd either, but between the two I'll give Khan a better chance against Floyd then I would Mandina. So why not let Mandina fight Thurman? The two are a good recipe for a good scrap, with somebody getting KOd in the end.

It's not worth much right now, and that is the point. His future is brighter if he's not rushed in with fighters he is nowhere near in terms of class. Of course he called out Mayweather, who wouldn't want a payday like that and a shortcut to big fame and popularity for having been in the ring with the best? But, when he gets in there and looks like he's standing still and tentative the whole night, the interest in seeing just how good he can be or how long his win streak can last will be a thing of the past. Not to mention, Floyd will get no credit for a win, because, casuals are not really aware of Thurman, yet. It's simply not the right time.

It's like a High School Bball player skipping college to enter the NBA draft. There's a reason that was stopped. For one, it can turn future stars into has beens in one night. See Lenny Cooke's documentary as an example. Thurman needs to spend some time in "college" first.

Anyway, I like Thurman and I want to see him display his skills against some better comp...not be thrown to the lions.

Truthfully nobody at 147lbs, maybe 154lbs, because of the size difference, but he fought the top guy there and won, so I'll take that back. Considering how Pac does against Bradley will determine if he still plays a factor. If he looses to Bradley we can kiss Pac goodbye. At 160lbs he might have problems because of the size, but that alone should tell you how good he really is if he has to 160lbs to find a good opponent.

I think Floyd is as near a perfect fighter as we can see right now (lacking just that little bit of 1 punch ko power), and he's a huge draw on his own.

If he fights Thurman maybe the numbers won't be as high as Khan (who somehow still has fans?) or Maidana (a deserving fighter but probably not a huge draw in his own right). But, if Thurman makes a good account of himself then he'll be on the road to stardom -- even if he loses -- and I think we can all agree that boxing needs new stars.

Plus, Mayweather's 'all roads lead to May' means that he can fight anyone and it will sell big, so, in lieu of the Pac fight that people want but will never get, why not Thurman now?

Waiting until he's seasoned enough is a poor excuse. Floyd only has a couple of more fights and to be honest, if Thurman and his team a whiff that they're next to next in line I bet they take a soft touch so as to avoid losing the payday. And a soft touch won't get you ready for Floyd. If Thurman loses, it won't be the end of his career, everyone loses to Mayweather right now in the 140-147 range -- possibly good fights from Bradley and Pac.

Thurman isn't famous enough and is he even better than Kirkland or Canelo?

I like Thurman but the kid just ain't ready for money yet. He should continue down the path he is going and perhaps in 2015. Right now people would be screaming that he is to green and that Floyd picked him off before he was at his prime.

I actually see a fight with Saul down the road for him
