how close was an ali v frazier 4th fight to happening ?

Because with Ali and Frazier there would be a war no matter when they would fight.

 

Thats true..but there second fight wasnt exactly a nail biter.

 

On it's own merit,the second fight was pretty good. It's just that it suffers in comparisson to the first and second ones. Out of the three,Joe was on his best form in the first and Muhammad in the second.

 

Lots of holding in the second fight.

 

Not forgetting Tony Perez' sudden bout of Tinnitus during the second round.

 

And both guys seemed spent by the 10th

 

Easy to say as fans when we don't have to go out and destroy ourselves and can sit back and nurse our beer and popcorn and say, "wow, they're banging each other like there's no tomorrow!" :-(

 

It's certainly true that they brought out the competitive instincts against each other more than any other opponent. Even a game of Tiddlywinks between them would've been taken seriously.
