I give him some credit anyway. Comes in with a year+ inactivity, comes in hugely overweight, says preperations for the fight were very disruptive, including a cut from sparring. Takes the fight anyway, clearly not really giving a **** but comes away with a tko win. He's simply just a genuine fighter. He's his own worst enemy too but I'm convinced a fully fit, fully motivated, somewhat disciplined Tyson Fury is definitely in the top 5 heavyweights in the world and at 25 and being a monster of a man, he has serious improvements to come. I can't help but like the guy, he's funny, he's tough, he's a bit silly but at the same time, he's got some serious tools there that I feel are under-rated. Looked to me like he went in there last night with litttle or no preperation yet came away with a win, albeit against poor opposition but Abell came to win.
Inactive, two stone over weight, nowhere near his best and he blows away a dangerous southpaw he took on a weeks notice in 4 rounds. Says he wants a **** opponent like #3 world raked Adamek as another tune up.
No not really. I would move him down my rankings due to the **** performance against an extremely limited average fighter. This was a pure pub car park punch up, awful. An average hw like Charr, Dimitrenko or Wach would have obliterated Fury on that performance. Even someone like Price may well have put Fury in a coma if he fights like that again. Harsh words but not wide of the mark. Wilder and Ustinov destroy Fury by vicious KO early.
What would Tyson get credit for? Credit for showing a total lack of professionalism by showing up in horrible condition and then struggling with a journeymen. Abell was KO'ed in 1 by the obese Arreola, beaten by a shot Oquendo, beaten by a shot cruiserweight in Al Cole. Abell wasn't dangerous at all he was handpicked to be KO'ed quickly and Fury still struggled. If Wlad showed up in his next fight 2 stone overweight and struggled with Leapai should we give Wlad credit?
My point is, had Fury fought a better fighter then he would have lost. So in answer to the thread title, no he doesn't get any credit for last night.
Are we back in fantasy land, judging fighters on 'what if' scenarios. Or are we judging the facts we see in the ring (and on the scales). Fury has demonstrated his lack of ambition and discipline numerous times and it is clear to me that if he ever manages to win a world belt (which isn't all that certain) then he will most certainly lose to some random guy because Fury lacks the focus and dedication necessary at the elite level of this sport. So does Fury deserve credit? No. He is is worse shape mentally and physically than he was 18 months ago. He ducked Pulev, was dumb enough to sign contracts with Haye and apparently was out of the gym for a full year. He is farther away form a world title shot than he was in 2013. Fury clearly regressed.
Yeah I'll give him credit. It's been along time since he was in the ring and he blew the other guy away.
If he was facing a better fighter he would be in better shape like he was for Haye. He bust his nut to be in the best condition of his life for Haye and as a result Haye ran scared. The level of opponent was matched to his current state so you have no 'point'.
I have a very valid point and I would suggest you take off your Fury tinted glasses and actually look at the facts staring you in the face. Perhaps you should have another look at the fight too while you're at it. I'm a Fury fan, I think he's great for the sport and generates interest, however I'm not so sure he is all that "bothered" anymore.
I would say he is 'bothered' since he has another two fights scheduled and was deperate, focused amd motivated to fight Haye. Who would of beaten him last night? Every time Abell came on, Fury came on stronger and floored him evey time. What was learned last night is when Fury is attacked he attacks back harder. He doesn't hug or tango dance.
On last night's performance who beats him? Browne, Jennings, Wilder, Pulev, Wlad, Perez off the top of my head.
