Fair enough , but no way i could have given it 40-36 for Collins. I gave the first two to Steve Jnr. Gifford got the third as his punches were more telling IMO, the fourth was closer as Steve Jnr upped his work rate and used the jab more and went to the body, but he was getting caught cleanly himself with those jabs and uppercuts and i just gave it to Gifford again for the draw. I actually think if Collins Jnr didn't hurt his right hand or shoulder in the third round he would have stopped Gifford as he was busting him up at that point and there was things to like about him as his head movement was good and he was looking for different angles. But when he got the injury and fatigue set in he looked pretty lost and he kept spitting his gum shield out which i think he should have been deducted a point for and then it was probably when he needed some amateur experience to fall back on. I think Steve Jnr needs to work on a lot of things in the gym and dropping down in weight should be the first thing as even with all that muscle on him he's small for a Cruiser-weight and i reckon at Light-heavyweight or even Super-middle he would be strong. And with his lack of amateur background they will have to keep him busy.
He has raw talent thats for sure, hard to belive he only started a year ago http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NfJmhTDzKlc http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FPG-cCsSE9Q
:good Hopefully his promoter (Les Allen; Jnr actually isn't with FWP despite appearing on the Copper Box show) and Collins Sr. can see the wisdom in all that and steer the lad in the right direction. The fact that he is slotted to compete at cruiser again next month is disheartening.
:nod I've seen far worse boxing from blokes who converted from other sports (including rugby) and with far more experience and big-money backing.
I'm not sure if he's with FW or no, but that was the second time Collins Jnr has fought on one of his shows. The first time was on the Chisora-Malik Scott bill last year.
I thought Collins won the fight by 39 to 38, but I suppose theres no real arguments with the draw. If he can get his weight down to at least light heavy thats a step in the right direction:deal
Andy is the biz, looks like he will get to fight GGG on April 26th,to be announced this week and all signs are its Andy,BRING IT ON>>>>>>>>
He's a great fella alright. But I hope you understand what you seem to want him to be getting into, Dutchie!!!
I hope he does, but this has creeped in a bit in recent years, International champions/medalists dont enter the nationals therfore dont risk been beaten by Irish boxers but still because they are on good sports grants have to be picked for the big international tournaments,
Quigley and McLoughlin are the only big names I cant see on the list and I heard Hickey is injured thats why he hasnt entered.
The only thing is, there are no major tournaments this year - 2014 is a write-off save for an EU Championships that's being revived. No Euros, no Worlds.
