The Hopkins-Tito KO

You're overanalyzing. There was'nt a particular move by Hopkins that got Trinidad knocked out. Trinidad got knocked out because he got overly aggressive realizing he was well behind and losing big.

Trinidad basically went for broke and took huge risks, Hopkins being the great general that he is let Tito's aggressiveness work in his favor and let Trinidad crash plum onto his punches.

Hopkins may never have been PPV, but i'd have paid a lot to see that fight

 

I always thought he was throwing a left uppercut while simultaneously and purposely blocking Trinidad's hook.

 

That's what it look like to me.

he did it against kelly pavlik but not knock him down with the punch.

bhop was on the ropes and pavlik threw an uppercut and hopkins threw a straight right and blocked pavliks left hand in the process. it was really impressive.

 

:good it was a great move . I haven't watched it in a while but I think Tito didnt bring his left back up and paid for it.

 

It was a beautiful block and counter.

His push kind of ruined the aesthetics of it though.

Hopkins's whole performance, especially from round 6 on, was a joy to watch

2001 was the year of the upset in big fights.

 

If you read my post, I'm giving Hopkins his due.
I wont however shy away from disagreeing that it was a particular move or punch that got Trinidad knocked out. Trinidad had been absorbing heavy leather in the couple of rounds previous, and he was taking big shots throughout that particular round he got knocked out in.
The man was taking risks hoping he could catch Hopkins with a big shot.

The Pavlik's and Tarvers of the world shell up and are fine with hearing the final bell.
Lets give Tito some credit here. He was one of those rare breeds who's never content with just making the finish line. The finish line is the winning line for him and he always fought that way.

 

when u consider the fact that in the two weeks leading up to the fight...tito was stuck in manhattan amidst all the air pollution and chaos that followed 9/11...and don king used tito at every opportunity that he could for photo ops and helping as much as he could during the devastation...all while bhop drove over that bridge and went back to philly and lived life as close to normal as possible in that situation...tito was at a huge disadvantage going into the fight. he looked smooth going into the ring. he looked flat in his performance. there was no jab. he appeared to be loading up on everything in hopes of scoring a ko early because he clearly wasn't in shape to go the whole 12 rounds imo. bhop did exactly what he was supposed to with a flat blown up welterweight. that fight looked like a man vs a boy. what disappointed me most was that bhop did not want to give trinidad the rematch he promised him. he knew he benefitted from the circumstances.

 

Hop would've whooped Cheatoe worse in the rematch. :deal

 

we'll never know....but what we do know is that he didn't beat the best version of trinidad in that fight.
