Tell me Boxing fans. Do/did you rate Calzaghe and Kessler as stay at home fighters?

Yes.

Calzaghe faced extremely faded versions of both RJJ and B-Hop. Put on the floor BOTH times.

Kessler... Well the Super 6 said it all.

 

Kessler would have been in the final of the super six had he not had to pull out.

 

both are not. They built their reputations at home but travelled for big fights.

Calzaghe fought Jones/Hopkins in America and Kessler fought Ward/Calazghe away from home.

People seriously underestimate the advantage the homefighter has. In the Super 6 - every fighter who fought in his home country won, everyone who fought away lost (except for Froch who beat AA in neutral Finland and Green who lost in America to Ward)

 

A Welshman fighting an Englishman in England is not the home fighter.

Calzaghe fought Eubank, Woodhall, and Reid as the away fighter. These are 3 of his best opponents all recent world champions at the time.

 

More accurate to say they both were "made at Home" champions.
Had Calzaghe been in the Super 6 with kessler, they both would have been eliminated prior to the semi-finals.
Both of their records are filled with bums and B level contenders.

 

Of course it happens over here, but we call them 'derby's' and it blows your rivalry's out the water.

Joe is English by birth and Welsh by upbringing, so both England and wales are his home countries.

Scotland would be considered a weak away for him, if he was fighting a non-scot, and a valid away if he was fighting a Scot.

its about their attitude, joe used to **** himself when he was about to make that rare event of fighting someone good, try and wangle out of it repeatedly whislt Kessler would say ' ja , no problem, we fight now, anywhere'.

 

Kessler had title fights in Denmark, Wales, England, Australia, Germany and the US.
There is no case to be made for him being a stay home fighter at all.

 

Joe spent his 20's through to his mid 30's, fighting in Europe. (mainly Britain)

He only went to the U.S. in his 15th and final year as a pro.

He was without doubt a stay at home fighter, as in he wasn't really recognised on the world stage until 2006.

America will always be the home of boxing. The majority of the worlds best boxers, as well the biggest promoters and networks, are all based in America.

Joe was a world class fighter. But if you're world class in your 20's and 30's, and you haven't fought in the U.S. then you're not going to get recognition, and you're going to be labelled as a stay at home fighter.
