Why were the 2 judges in Hopkins v Calzaghe foolish enough to gift Calzaghe a win?

Calzaghe did nothing to win the fight. He threw three times the punches as Hopkins but Hopkins threw twice as many effective punches.

Should Oscar have won his fight vs Floyd just because he threw more punches? No
Should Oscar have won his fight vs Pernell for being the aggressor? No

So just because Calzaghe threw more punches and was the aggressor doesnt mean anything if Bernard (an all time great boxer, unlike Calzaghe) was more effective. At the very most, Calzaghe won 6 rounds (and that's generous). Because of the knockdown there is no possible way Calzaghe won legitimately. How pathetic. The only time the bum Calzaghe fought a legitimate opponent, it was a 43 year old geezer who whipped him. (washed up RJJ, padded record Lacy, bum Kessler, and paper champion Bika are not legitimate opponents - the fact that a 43 year old man was better than all this competition proves that they are not top level boxers).

Compubox stats are unreliable so copy pasting them will prove nothing. If a boxer breathes on his opponent that counts as 10 punches on compubox - using this to try and validate Calzaghe's "victory" only demonstrates one's own incompetence in the same way Calzaghe demonstrated incompetence in the ring vs Hopkins.

Going into the last round, Calzaghe's dad was urging him to get a knockout - knowing that they were gonna lose. Calzaghe's facial expression before the scorecard announcement showed that he realized he didn't deserve a decision and he did not belong in the same ring as a 43 year old man - let alone if he was in his prime.

If Joe Calzaghe wanted to be an all time great athlete he should have tried out cricket or soccer because his boxing career was not notable - it was one giant farce of a padded record.

What has been written is IRREFUTABLE, UNDENIABLE, INCONTESTABLE, UNQUESTIONABLE, INDISPUTABLE, INDUBITABLE, flawless, FACT. Not opinion. It is not an opinion that Hopkins was robbed. It is FACT.

Anyone who disagrees simply is an example of a blind sheep who follows the herd. Nothing more. If anyone disagrees, their voice means nothing.

Joe landed more shots over the majority of the rounds. He wins.. Close but no robbery.

The Hopkins from around 1997-2002 would have wiped the floor with Calzaghe.

The fight took place on 19 April, 2008 - ie almost 6 years ago.

    Calzaghe won. Hopkins lost.
Accept this and move on with your life - it's sad to see so much bile over a sporting contest.

    You ****wit.

I wonder who this alt is?

    Anyhow

. I understand that Hopkins is an American legend that people want to see as an iconic figure. America love a reformist and Hopkins as a former armed robber turned world champ is just the story that wins Americas hearts but...

    1. Calzaghe landed more than 100 punches than Hopkins throughout the fight.
    2. Contrary to what people want to believe, Calzaghe also made Hopkins miss more
    3. All round punch percentages, Calzaghe finished ahead of Hopkins
    4. Calzaghe outlanded Hopkins in every round
    5. A Byrd who scored for Hopkins. Type in Adalaide Byrd in Google and see what comes up for yourself, still here are some little things for you to look at
    a. A Byrd was the only judge out of the 3 scoring judges that had Mack ahead against Cloud
    b. The K Pavlik - A Lopez fight was scored 98-92, 99-91 by the other 2 judges, A Byrd scored it 95-95
    c. A Byrd was one of the judges that had Morales a 4 point loser against Maidana
    d. In the S Aydin vs S Ouali fight, the other 2 judges scored clearly for Aydin. Byrd scored for Ouali
    e. The J Almaraz/C Tyler fight was scored a Maj-Dec all because of one judge, guess which? A Byrd
    f. The A DeMarco/J Reyes fight was a SD. Guess who the odd judge out was? A Byrd.
    g. The R Torres - M Arnaoutis fight was a close fight, a point either way to 2 judges but a wide result scored by Byrd
    h. In the A Pryor Jr/D Stanislavjevic SD, guess who the odd judge out was? You guessed it... A Byrd
    i. The W Ferguson/J Lopez SD, guess who the odd judge out was? You guessed it... A Byrd

I think thats enough for you to get the picture with Byrd. Remember the other 2 judges scored clearly for Calzaghe

    6. Calzaghe beat Hopkins in America, at a new weight with 3 American judges and Cortez as ref.
    7. Calzaghe scored the single highest score card against Hopkins ever 116-111 at that time.
    8. The 2 judges that scored for Calzaghe agreed on 9 of the rounds
    9. Calzaghe landed more on Hopkins than anyone ever.

Now I know there will be a flood of people coming on here noting Hopkins scoring a flash KD in the first round, and I agree that Hopkins did win a few rounds even when he didnt land as often, but people are mad if they think Calzaghe won on workrate, Calzaghe won because he was able to land his left more often than Hopkins could land his right.
Calzaghe finished the stronger and took away the moments Hopkins likes down the stretch.
Other thoughts, If Hopkins thought he was winning, do you think he would have been looking for time out and would bother trying to get points deducted off of Calzaghe, of course he wouldnt, Hopkins knew he was losing.

What I do note is that nobody seems to mind Hopkins lost to Taylor. In the first Hopkins/Taylor fight, Jermaine was badly hurt and Hopkins looked the stronger at the end, yet it seems to upset alot of these people that Calzaghe beat Hopkins. Appears very biased.

The key thing for me is yes hopkins landed the cleaner shots but there were like 3 a round he didnt land them enough. Joe was throwing landidng, scuffing sometimes ugly work but it was landing at times. I know there is the gif where he just thows horrible looking patty punches but then a shot straight left lands...

Hopkins played for time he was being outworked and outhustled

Calzaghe won. It burns a lot of people, but he won fair and square. Let it go.

The problem with scoring this fight for Hopkins is that he did very little but spoilt after the 4th round. You'd think he would have learnt his lesson after losing two fights to Taylor because he wasn't being active enough, and that he especially wouldn't try such a negative approach against a known high out-out pressure puncher like Calzaghe, but he did. Whether he got his game-plan wrong or simply couldn't handle a high paced fight anymore at that age the fact remains that wasn't active enough to ensure a lead on the cards and Calzaghe did enough to justify his victory.

I like this bit. On the one hand proclaiming Bernard Hopkins an all time great while on the other dismissing him as an old geezer.
