I think Tommy got a wake up call when Derry stopped him, he was cruising and putting it on Derry, but the longer the fight went on, the more careless and reckless he became, and we know what happened next. With Mitchell, i think he believed he could beat Katsidis and Burns, so i'm surmising that Tommy will have learned from the Matthews fight, and that it won't have knocked his confidence too much, whereas Kevin will of had his confidence knocked big time, and will have questioned his own capability ? I think your on the money with regards to Tommy's next move, he needs a good rest and a confidence builder. Losing to Mitchell might be a big step backwards.
Coyle will certainly continue to be in exciting fights great for domestic cards but nowhere near getting towards world honours. A fight with Mitchell he would not get past the mid rounds. No one can question his heart great fight last night.
I'm in the minority I know but IF the Mitchell fight was to happen I really think Tommy would be in with a fair chance. Last night by his own admission his timing wasn't quite there. Brizuela whilst being light and on paper not heavy handed caught him with some cracking body shots that regardless of whether someone's a big puncher or not would drop every lightweight in the division. You could argue that most wouldn't get caught like that and I would agree but Tommy just wasn't at the races in the early rounds and then the damage was done.
I see your point but if Kevin hit him with those shots and another stone in weight behind them it's night night time
I agree Billy but I wouldn't expect Tommy to leave himself as open as he did last night to be caught. He struggled to get his range and ended up lunging in leaving the body open. His timing wasn't there from the start which I think was down to being taken by surprise by Brizuelas movement which was neat. Obviously ur better qualified than me Billy to comment but he would know what to expect from Kevin and plan around that, Brizuela was unknown.
Wouldn't argue with you there Billy, but i dont think kevins the same fighter. I'm not knocking the man, but he looked lost after Ricky stopped him.
I hear what you say mate although tommy left himself open to Derry and got punished, beat a featherweight/SFW in John were he maybe felt he could take risks then his defence was very poor again last night,I'd like to see tommy fight for the British get more experience before fighting someone like Kevin, do you think Kevin can't see what I can?
I think Kevin would see this as an easy nights work to be honest which is dangerous, especially with for someone like Kevin who can blow hot and cold. I agree that Tommy leaves himself far to open at times which I know he is working on. For me the Mitchell fight is not what he needs right now, I would love to see him either go for Woodhouses LWW title when he vacates or be matched up with someone like Gethin just to get a bit more experience. If the Mitchell fight does get made with a tighter defence he has a chance in my opinion.
Bull**** stoppage for coyle last nite spoiled a good fight coyles got plenty of heart but Kevin Mitchell punches far to hard for him and is a class above
Mitchell will destroy Coyle. I think John Simpson would fancy his chances if he was given time to prepare this time against Coyle.
ah billy...when was he a featherweight ??....do you mean he could be a natural feather / super-feather ??
