For the last couple of years, fans have complained incessantly anytime Khan's name was brought up as a pontential opponent for Mayweather. The fans also went crazy when he said Devon Alexander was the front runner to face him instead of Guerrero. So clearly the fans don't share this sentiment.

Furthermore, Hatton, Judah, and Ortiz all had good hand and foot speed. You can say Mayweather has trouble with speed(even though he's undefeated). However, Khan and Pacquiao have both been knocked out by counterpunchers and Floyd is the best counterpuncher in the sport.

You've a point though, it's probably just fans repeating his slogans like "best ever", "hard work, dedication", "easy work", etc and people just say them because it's catchy. Mayweather is my favorite current boxer, but key word is current, when he retires I will have another favorite current boxer. The game don't start or end with Floyd Mayweather. And as far as him being the #1 greatest I actually never thought he was, not now or in the past. But I do think he is on the ATG list, just not #1. You can like a fighter without making him the GOAT.
