    Discuss.

This had the feeling of Hearns/Leonard. 2 top fighters of their weight class in their primes squaring off. This fight was also one that the boxing fans have salivated for. It was insane when it was signed.

Let us factor in that this fight was between the two top dogs of 140

Matthysse was considered undefeated in the eyes of almost everyone

Matthysse was coming off 2 huge ko wins in Mike Dallas Jr and Lamont, he also "beat" Alexander/Judah (Of course in the eyes of many"

Matthysse was at least a 3 to 1 favorite, it was probably around 4 by the time the bets closed.

Matthysse was thought to easily knock Garcia out in 3 rounds

Matthysse was the expected victor and that is why RING MAGAZINE put him on the cover instead of the lineal champion Garcia

D Swift beat him convincingly on all 3 scorecards as well as many other unofficial scorecards around the world

D Swift knocked Matthysse down for the 1st time in Matthysse's career

D swift, in the eyes of many was thought to be scared and would never sign the contract to fight Matthysse. (You know who you are, many others shared the same sentiment)

D Swift took Matthysse's best shot and shook it right off.

I belonged to the party who thought Matthysse would run though Garcia... It's fair to say that he held his own and that fight was more or less even until the swelling became too much, Garcia boxed well but he fouled far too much for my liking... Many illegal lowblows, a point should have been deducted much earlier. Garcia definitely derailed the Matthysse hype train a bit... A rematch for me is needed, because I think without excessive fouling, and excessive swelling blocking Matthysse's vision that the fight would have been much closer. A good win for Danny, but not without controversy, he didn't prove to me and many others that he was the better boxer.

Also the knockdown shouldn't have counted.... Bad reffing in that fight, atrocious actually.

It was a very dirty fight for both men but that's just how they fight.

Matthysse rabit punches as well, let's not forget this.

Garcia proved to be the more resilient fighter, the better one going down the stretch. Garcia came in with a much better gameplan. Even without the swelling, Garcia would have won anyways imo.

He was already starting to outbox him b4 the swelling. Winning the 5th round in good fashion.

IMO, this was an ALL TIME great kind of win.

Cleaning the division out with a win like this against your clear rival. It was nuts.

Proved the naysayers wrong to a degree, but he didn't prove to me at least that he's the better fighter... I would like to see a rematch somewhere down the line, if mean if you're going to give Morales a rematch then Matthysse definitely deserves one.... Should both win their next few fights then i'd like to see a rematch with better officiating. If Garcia wins the rematch then he's proved beyond reasonable doubt that he's the better boxer :deal

There was a rematch clause for Morales. He didn't give him one, he was forced to take it.

Garcia should go to 47 and beat the fighters there imo. The good 47's are better than Lucas.

He shook it right off, his mouthguard just came loose. :hi:

    Garcia!!!! 114-112, 114-112, 115-111. :hi:

Who was the one on their ass again?

Garcia, first man to put Matthysse on his ass.

I thought Matthysse would take his head off. Garcia proved he's a much better fighter than myself and probably a lot of others gave him credit for.

That was an excellent victory for Danny, by far his biggest win of his career. He beat the universally recognized #1 JWW contender, who most thought was going to walk through Swift inside of 6 rounds.

It doesn't look like Danny has any troubles making the 140 limit, I know he's mentioned in recent interviews he'll be moving up to 147 after 1 more fight following the Herrera fight at 140, but if he can make the JWW limit comfortably, I'd rather see him just campaign there and become a longstanding champion there kind of in the same mold as Hopkins was at 160 lbs.

He should try and become the kingpin of the division at JWW. At 147, he'd be just another one of the many guys in the mix for a title.

Enormous since it was a gift decision for Danny the Showtime house fighter against a foreigner. Lucas was outboxing Danny both before and after his old injury got aggravated. But Danny won't be that lucky every fight, so in the future this will always look like a huge (unearned) victory for him.

Simply his best win to date easy.

As a fan of Matthysse I have got to show respect to Danny for that win. I honestly think a rematch was warranted due to the competitiveness, entertainment, and the injury, but aside from that Danny did more to win on that night. And proved a lot of us wrong. He deserves a lot of credit.

I'd still favor Matthysse in a rematch, but only slightly.

Big big win, if he beats 2 or 3 top WW then he is in the HOF IMO.
