He's not trying to do a damn thing about the belt nonsense. In fact, I know he's said many times that belts don't mean a damn thing to him anymore. No one who even remotely follows the sport thinks that anyone other than May is the recognized man at 147, and if they're casual fans who gives a **** anyway? They'll buy his fight because of his name, not because they got duped into thinking his opponent is a legit champ in the same division.

Fans hate the number of belts, but no one is confused about who the actual 'champion' is.

This won't work either. Let's say for the sake of argument that Floyd unifies 3 or 4 of the belts, but he only fights twice a year. Are all his fights going to be mandos? And we all know how ridiculous the ranking system of the ABC's can be, so if he did unify the 'championships' and then abide by those rules we'd probably be in for a run of real terrible match-ups.

I agree that the sport needs fewer belts, but I'd prefer they vanish rather then get unified.

In short, you shouldn't be 'proud', excited if May vs Maidana is a matchup you want to see, but you shouldn't feel a sense of pride.

Maidana is more worthy of the match, but Khan is the better boxer which would make the fight more interesting. Only 3 fighters between 140 and 147 is really worthy, Pac, Bradley and Garcia.

Zab and Mosley lost decisively. And Maidana actually has good amateur experience.

Rewatch the Broner Maidana fight and tell me Maidana isn't the most inaccurate puncher of all time. He is going to get systematically taken apart by Floyd.

Yes Mayweather has said he doesnt really care abou the belts but if u see he doesnt give them up. fighting Canelo and Maidana in back 2 back fights just got him 2 more. Hes doing good by unifiying

If Mayweather became undisputed those santcions will let him do what he wants. he wont have to fight mandortories and if he did have to fight one it will probably be one that he should fight anyways (Floyd's mando was Canelo, made sense) so it can work out

Mayweather didn't duck Paul Williams. Paul was calling out Mayweather before he fought anybody with a name. Mayweather chose to fight Baldomir which was champ at 147. Mayweather called out Cotto at 140, but after Mayweather beat Bruseles, Cotto team said he wasn't ready for Mayweather yet. Lara? How can he duck Lara and he's at 154? We know the story with Pac.
