He's a 2 weight world champion. I'd also say being in the top 5 in your divison worldwide makes you world class.

I would agree with this.I think theres probably a couple of men out there who would beat Ricky, but he has been a fighting champion, never fought an unworthy contender, and as far as I know has defended his mandatories.I will be willing him to win a lot more than I would some English boxers, past or present. But if Scotland,or the others were in Rio instead of England Id want them to win.Boxing is just not that popular, especially the lighter weights. In most cases the smaller weights are better and theres more strength in depth.Compare the lightweights/Light welters to the heavyweights. If Scott Quigg wins a proper world title hell be no better known than Ricky.Tyson Fury or Delboy? Different story.

    Paper champ at best.

There are 5 better fighters than Burns in the LW division.

Thats yet to be proven. If he beats Crawford, and Im not sure he will,he could be a bit nearer to proving you wrong. Is he one of your five?

I will concede that he world class in his old weight division, but its pretty obvious he is not in this one. Even against middling challengers, he was clearly losing until he got a lucky break and a horrible cheat decision. Just think how badly he would have done versus good challengers, it doesn't bear thinking about, I doubt a borderline cut or a corrupt set of judges will save his skin.

This is how it stands and I am afraid, like everyone else, he has to prove he is world class before you can call him it. He doesn't get a free pass just for being Scottish.

hes not well known because hes sub-world level, accepts cheat decisions in favour of himself and sports 3 losses in a row at the low end of world level.
