Calzaghe was a good fighter. No, he is not beating a bonafide ATG in Spinks, or other guys like Qawi, Mustafa (if he actually trained), and Saad, but he'd be a top 10 guy.

Yeh I shouldda picked weaker 40somethings. Qawi even at 40something would knock Joe the **** out.

mind you 40something 90s Leon spinks was totally ****, postprime Joe would have a chance of a life and death split decision against him.

You just reminded me of Qawi-L. Spinks. My god was that a horrendous beating.

Qawi looked like the most sadistic fighter this side of Terry Norris.

Exactly right. Calzaghe was good, not great. He is easily the most overrated fighter on this forum.

Is Calzaghe a past era now? It feels like yesterday.

I'll take your refusal to answer as a sign he wouldn't to nearly as well as he did in his own era. :good

Based off of the two fights I have seen of Joe at 175, no way does he beat Qawi or Spinks. He was put down in the first round in both fights... Spinks would have him out of there IMO.

No, I just think your question was stupid. Calzaghe would do fine today, he was the Lineal SMW and LHW Champion only 4 years ago, and several of the fighters he beat are still active and doing well as of last year. Both divisions are as barren now as it was then and there has been no significant advancements in the sport in such a short amount of time. Ward is the only new face that would present a challenge to him. Maybe ask this question 10 years from now.

Go start another Vitali thread. You waste too much energy trashing fighters.

Calzaghe, the only fighter resembling greatness on his resume was a 43 year old who he just beat by SD, controversially.

But somehow hes going to beat a collection of the greatest LHs ever

    :patsch

    Only in Calzaghistan

It would have been interesting if Calzaghe was a few years older and in the same 168 lb. division as guys like Benn, Eubank, Watson.

I would like to have seen those fights, they would've been interesting.
