Eubank on why He & Benn got so famous so fast

Yep....free to air TV did the trick. several channels showed boxing regularly. All the kids knew these guys names. They were well known. The public wants what the public gets.

Plus, no x-box, playstation, laptop, smartphone, netflix, internet, social media etc etc no UFC, WWE etc

 

And also football became a lot bigger.

 

How is anyone pure anything? All you can say is we all came from the centre of a star...

Herol was a fanastic boxer, crazy how he never won a world title but I don't think that really had any mental effect on Eubank. In fact the story goes something along the lines of Eubank putting Graham down in the 1st, Herol then got up and Eubank couldn't get near him - either that or the other way round, Herol was hugely out boxing him then Eubank flattened him.

Eubank wasn't the same after the Watson fight, that killer instinct left him that night.

 

Probably not the best choice of phrase but can't argue with the sentiment.

 

No it did not. it got more professional, but certainly it has got no bigger.

Benn was huge almost from day one. Seconds Out helped make him a superstar in the Country. Eubank developed a lot slower, what made him was that Dos Santos fight; the brilliant visual of the 'Eubank pose' as the referee counted the Brazilian out. That fight made Benn/EubankI a lot more interesting, but I still figured at the time Eubank was not in Benn's league.

Remember watching Eubank- Benn 1 with my old man who hated Eubank, told me Benn was gonna tear him apart, have to say that after watching it at a pretty young age i thought Eubank was great, loved the showmanship as he could back it up and loved the whole boxing scene at the time eg the big ITV nights etc anyone watching at that time will always have a grin when they hear the ITV boxing 'tune'.

Think Eubank was one of our finest boxers in my years, and particularly loved how at the end of his career he finally got the cheers and all that against Thompson, and showed in losing just how ****ing iron hard he was. He actually gained lot of respect in those losing efforts than in his prime by the average fan.
