When I read what you said before, it sounded like you are saying there hasn't been a lineal champion since Lennox... my bad.

Lineal is the man that defeats the number 2.
Since Vitali lost his belt and his 2nd spot, the spot went to Povetkin.
By beating Povetkin Wlad aquired the lineal champion status, even if he already was the top dog since years.

No worries, guess it's my bad as well since the post was poorly worded.

For the Transnational Boxing Board, Wladimir Klitschko became the linear champion when he beat Povetkin.

This is because the TBRB only crowns a champion based upon a meeting between the #1 contender and the #2 contender as crowning a new king in a division where there is currently an empty throne.

SO Ring Magazine's decision to acknowledge Wlad as "true champ" after Chagaev is not respected or accepted by us. In fact it was bull**** - everyone knew the gap between 1 and 3 was huge.

But we do recognise older lineage. Our flyweight championship can be traced all the way back to the seventies. You can see a detailed account about who holds the linear title and the history of each lineage here:

No, lineal is different from undisputed.

    They are two different things.

One can be undisputed without being lineal, and vice versa.

for example, Sergio Martinez is still the lineal middleweight champion.

Wlad is lineal, but not undisputed because of his brother holding hostage of the wbc belt.

If wlad will capture the We Be Crooks belt too, he'll be lineal AND undisputed.

But many argues that he was already undisputed since he holds ALL the existing belts except the wbc one.

    Good stuff.

Pongsaklek Wonjongkam, I tell ya... That guy was a beast. 2001-2007 and 2010-2012. Pretty epic. A who's who of fighters on his resume at that...

    :good

You can be lineal without holding any of the alphabet shyte. Those belts are really incidental to deciphering who is quality.

Recently Sergio was a lineal champion without holding a title when Chavez Jr. was allowed to fight for his WBC against Zbik.

Yeah. I like it when that happens. Here are the current lineal champs, for those who are interested.

    HW: Wladimir Klitschko
    LHW: Adonis Stevenson
    SMW: Andre Ward
    MW: Sergio Martinez
    JMW: Floyd Mayweather
    JWW: Danny Garcia
    JFW: Guillermo Rigondeaux
    FLY: Akira Yaegashi

So we're not doing too bad at the moment. All men ready to fight, too, with my only concern over Yaegashi - the weakest of the Kings sitting atop the best of the divisions. Maybe a mild concern over what Ward has planned.

Most have fights lined up. Pretty weak title defenses at that, if I do say so.

If ranking based solely on their upcoming scheduled opponents, we have:

    1. Mayweather defending against Maidana 5/3
    2. Sergio defending against Cotto 6/7
    3. Stevenson defending against Fonfara 5/24
    4. Garcia defending against Herrera 3/15
    5. Wladimir defending against Leapai 4/26
    6. Yaegashi defending against Odilon Zaleta 4/6
Rigondeaux and Ward have no scheduled fight...

Lineage no longer has any meaning in a world of multiple champions who dont fight each other.

    Its over.

Lineage means something that is consistently linked together.

It means **** if some guy picks it up vacant from the previous guy who picked it up vacant.

So Wlad is the lineal HW champ because he beat a shot- washed up Chris Byrd who wasn't worthy enoungh to challenge the previous HW champ?? Give me a break please.

    Lineage is finished.

Mayweather-Maidana is at 147, and so is not a title defence. Mayweather could actually have got a new lineage going at 147 by taking on Bradley, but if things go as expected, Mayweather and Pacquiao are going to be #1 and #2 at welterweight in a few months, so no point in holding our collective breath for that to be made.

Wrong. Lineage is the man who beat the man who is the linear champ. Not no.1 2 or 3.

It was brought into effect back in the old days when there was just one man to beat. Its all over now. Get it?

Lineage has nothing to do with how many "champions" are named.
