Julio De La Cruz was shot in the hip and had to get the bullet removed earlier this year, made his comeback in the WSB yesterday against Teymur Mammadov.

After two rounds of Cruz fighting his usual defensive, counter punching style the fight was fairly even. This style he has is very effective in the amatuers but I always taught would translate terribly to the pro's as he doesn't seem to have much pop in his punches

However during the 3rd round after an exchange of words with Mammadov De La Cruz seem to and started going on the offensive and battered Mammadov for 3 rounds. He was really marking him up and pushing him back while at the same time his upper body and head movement was making him almost impossible to hit. His got some of the best head and upper body movement iv ever seen and shown that when he loads up a bit on his punches he can do damage, his hands are also lighting quick.

Teymur Mammadov has been Euro champion, Olympic bronze , world silver and bronze medallist at 91kg and has moved down to 81kg since. I felt that Mammadov tactics were off as he was trying to find his distance and outbox De La Cruz which playing right in his hands. However for him to beat up a very accomplished and naturally bigger boxer in such style was very impressive and makes me really want to see De La Cruz go pro now.

It is really unlikely to see De la Cruz defecting and turning pro. What is more likely, is that he becomes a pro within AIBA once their own professional boxing is established. I assume that Cuba would accept AIBA pro boxing therefore we could finally get to see all the best Cuban boxers as pros.

The best light heavy in the world, iron chin and untouchable skills, thats interesting about going pro with aiba which would make sense, is it like wat SOW did has 12 pro fights but can still fight in wsb?

Theres no light heavy in the pros or super middleweight, would stand a chance against beating him, I could see him schooling guys like kovalev stevenson and Ward!

Cruz is a fantastic boxer and one I enjoy watching, but Cuban fans and sack riders of Cuban fighters are hands down the most irritating bunch of cretins I've come across. The amount of delusional BS that they come out with never ceases to amaze. They're so far up their own asses and the asses of the Cuban fighters they worship they can't see the wood for the trees.

So everyone forgets La Cruz got out slicked and out fought by Yamaguchi Falcao who is very solid but not exceptional and went on to get destroyed by Mekhontsev. Hyperbole much?

:patsch theres always people who come out with BS like what you've wrote but u need to learn your boxing, if your the most skilled your the best and he is, you guys are brainwashed by the hype that pro promoters use! theres no one in the pros that are close to his level of talent and technique not any contenders or champs and could beat them all! alot of them quite easily

These mentalists all suffer from selective memory syndrome. Every decision a Cuban fighter has lost was a robbery and every Cuban who hasn't turned pro is a dead cert to become an unbeatable future pound for pound #1

I think this guy has got to be a troll but it's hard to tell given how full of **** Cuban fans are.

OK, you've convinced me. Convinced me that you are a troll. Here's to hoping that many more of Cuba's finest defect and end up as shark food on their way over to Miami
