The fact that Amir Khan of all fighters was one of the two front runners says it all. How can Khan even be in the picture? The fight was very close to getting done and it had all the *****s defending the fight. I wonder what thread you would've made if that fight did happen.

When I think of all the top PPV fighters in the last 10-15 years, they almost always tried to take on less riskier fights so that they can prolong their careers, and just as importantly, maintain their PPV drawing power.

That was the reason Oscar and Shane had no interest in fighting Floyd back in the early 2000's. Floyd called out both of those guys several times and it was interesting to see guys like Lampley and Roy Jones defend the bigger PPV stars at the time (Shane and Oscar,) saying a fight with Floyd didn't make sense since it was such a high risk, low reward type of fight.

Now with all that being said, Floyd only takes on top contenders who are pretty much always universally recognized as being a top 3 fighter in whatever division he's fighting in.

The last time he fought an "unworthy" opponent was probably when he fought Sharmba Mitchell up in Portland, Oregon. Since than, he's only taken on top contenders/titlists, so this idea of him not taking on top-tier guys is just stupid.

Just look at his entire record and combine all the fighters records (W-L) he's taken on, he's always fought extremely top quality opposition for the majority of his career. I mean at 36, he took on the universally recognized #1 JMW challenger in Canelo Alvarez. The nerve of some posters in here.

And it didn't matter that he chose Maidana, he's in a lose-lose situation with people that just don't like him. Had he picked Khan, people would be saying that Khan is completely undeserving of the fight, especially when factoring in how mediocre he's looked the past couple fights.

Unless he's taking on Pacman, Bradley or a Middleweight, people that despise Floyd for things that have nothing to do with boxing will continue to do so. And even if he did fight those guys, they'd still find something to ***** about with him.

Correct OP, picking Khan would have been the cherry pick and Floyd knows it. yes Floyd should be able to outbox Maidana but this is the more dangerous fight as Maidana is in form and is an actual WW unlike Khan.

    No.
Mayweather chose the right opponent between the two. No one is disputing that, but we are talking about Amir Khan and Maidana. These were horrible options from the start and it only further confirms that Mayweather is a cherrypicker. He even admitted it himself on an All Access video so there's no disputing this.

I agree with you that i don't like either fight for FLoyd, I think since he only has a few fights left I'd rather see him take on guys that can enhance his legacy.

I wouldn't have minded a fight with Danny Garcia at 140 pounds, a weight class I'm sure FLoyd could make comfortably. At least in that fight, Floyd could try to win another lineal championship; it would be his 5th across 5 weight classes and would make him the only fighter in history with that many lineal titles.

And obviously my 3 top fights for him would be against Pacman, Bradley and Martinez. but they're all HBO fighters and until the cold war between the 2 networks actually stops, the talent pool of fighters for him to choose from is limited to fighters from the Goldenboy stable. i don't like it at all, but since they don't do business together, I can understand his choice to pick Maidana for his next bout.

after about 5 listens to decipher what Sr was trying to say I come to the conclusion that my initial thoughts were correct. Floyd jr is scared shitless of Manny Paquaio & his Dad Floyd sr KNOWS Floyd aint got what it takes to beat him. End of Story

Floyd Mayweather jr is a cherry picking coward

Anyone that honestly picks Khan over Maidana is a troll or a bored hating dumbass. Khan has done absolutely nothing in one full year except dominate everyone and avenge losses on twitter. You don't get a major payday like this dominating twitter conversations. That said, Khan is currently getting his ass handed to him on twitter by none other than Brook.

P.S. Maidana was actually willing to dump his payday against Mayweather and give Khan a rematch and a free title shot at 147, it was Khan that dominate that conversation on twitter as well and said "I have bigger fish to fry". Apparently that fish at the moment is Guerrero.

Im not a fan of the magazine, but it is shocking how many on here view it as a reliable source when ratings are just someones opinions and I have often questioned some of them.
All the same, my point is a good one, in that Bradley with the 0 is in a better bargaining position and because he has the 0, many will argue results in his favour, where if he had of been stopped against Provodnikov, there would likely have been little arguing and possibly several threads about chins and a KO loss.
In todays boxing scene the 0 matters
