Billy will be on here the morra, with your boxing knowledge you should tell him where he's going wrong. I cannae believe that Ricky hasn't had you in the camp for all these years, no wonder Crawford beat him.
Exactly, Crawford was a level above Burns tonight, and imo every other night. Burns loses to all the current champions at the weight based on his last 3 fights, and if the jaw injury has taken away some of his confidence/punch resistance than the future doesn't look too bright for Ricky.
Billy.you didnt seem very urgent in the corner.it even crossed my mind by round 9 that I would have pulled ricky out and as he was getting nowhere.
if he'd done that Crawford would've just countered him more. Looked to me like Crawford had a couple more gears he could've gone to if needed. No shame losing to a fighter like that. I doubt a boxing trainer would ever instruct his fighter to be more reckless
He couldn't get inside to get shots off because Crawford was judging his distance very well or getting his own shots off first, hence the reasons for Burns looking hesitant like you say. Being reckless at world level gets you knocked out.
He was getting beaten, but not seriously hurt and no knockdowns... Be almost cruel to take him out of the fight in front of his hometown fans.
been saying it for the last 4 or 5 Burns fights and reported on here. there IS something frightning about watching Ricky fight, I've said confidence, apprehension or uncertainity... he always gets pulled into a scrap, and it's hold your breath time till he gets lucky. Ricky fights the same way everytime. well tonight it proved that though some of how I've tried to understand it is in part true, but the correct answer is thats just Ricky's level. he just isn't quite good enough. a great ambassador for boxing an excellent lad and very good fighter, but outside the very best is the reality. Best to yah Ricky you've served us well.
I did not say he was a superstar, and if Burn's played into his hands then even more power to Crawford for making it his kind of fight. In his first world title fight away from home against a two time world champion and Crawford won with ease... first time Crawford has done the 12 aswell I believe. I am not understanding why some of you are so unimpressed. Ricky Burn's had everything in his favour and was beaten comfortably by a much less experienced fighter.
Ricky is far too good for all the domestic level LW's but just that bit short to beat the top guys, he should just get back to high level Euro/fringe World level guys and go from there.
Couple of big paydays and walks away with his head held high is my hope. Not got much confidence in Hearn at the minute though, I think he'll finish his career with a couple of decent domestic fights. He needs one big payday at least, boy deserves it. Lost his title after a lengthy spell of holding it, he's not badly beaten up so Hearn should really get him paid and in some big fights
