Jim Watt/Ken Buchanan vs Terence Crawford

Strange thread but

Billy Nelson seems to think because his man got beat by Crawford then Crawford would've beat Scotland's other lightweight world champion Jim Watt. His exact words being ''Jim would not beat Crawford believe me''

I have both of them beating Crawford handily. Ken would school him there's no point in discussing that one.
Watt beat Davis Jr who is faster and more talented than Crawford. Watt would be too rough,tough and clever for Crawford.

Thoughts?

 

I think Crawford would beat Watt...Jim must be about 64 now?

I don't suppose Jim could make 135 anymore either...

 

the think that gets me the most is why people have such a hardtime excepting some eras were just better than others.

It's not hard, it's not a slant on Ricky Burns or any other fighter, it's just a fact.

Watt fought in a better time and fought some great fighters with great outcomes even in defeat. there it's not hard now is it.

this era overall is 2cnd and 3rd rate compared to other eras that were generally 1st & 2nd rate periods overall with far better fighters. Simple as that.

 

:good I tried to explain that point to Billy when I was trying to tell him why Joe Calzaghe cant be the greatest British fighter of all time.

This era's so watered down that Watts fights at Euro level had better quality than Burns world title fights.

Agree about the eras. I couldn't imagine, for example, Burns beating Howard Davis, or going 15 with Arguello.

At their respective best, I would pick Watt over Burns all day long...

 

One of Watt's British title fights was against Buchanan.

 

That was a cracking fight. A past prime Buchanan and a young raw Watt. Very close fight :good

The threads on Watt vs Crawford though. I wasn't too impressed with Crawford and he sure as hell isn't as talented as Davis Jr who won olympic gold in 76 and also won the Val Barker trophy for best boxer at the games beating out Ray Leonard and the Spinks brothers.

Crawford for my money is the number 1p4p at the mo . He convincingly out boxes Watt and probably stops him ,I also think he decisions Buchanan.Howard Davis, whose trainer is next to me in my avatar, was not as talented or multifaceted as Crawford.
Crawford can box just as effectively from either stance and has power Davis never possessed.
Davis threw jabs that were intended to keep you off not to inflict damage ,many of his punches fell short because he didn't fully commit to his shots. Davis's trainer Jimmy Glenn told me $$$ ruined Davis ,I didn't think he showed much commitment against Watt who, though not as skilled just out-gamed him imo.

 

Burns would not have been a champion in other eras. Brave kid but not a great fighter. Crawford is becoming one.

 

This is all true , but there is nothing second rate about Crawford ,he is the real deal.

 

At this point I got Buchanan. Besides possessing great skill he has a very impressive resume. Watt loses.

 

The Crawford that we seen at lightweight would struggle with Watt and lose wide to Buchanan. That I am sure of.
