Salido: "I think we gave Lomachenko a welcome to professional boxing"

“I’m used to coming in as the underdog and you can always see what I come to do,” said former featherweight champion Orlando “Siri” Salido after turning back two-time Olympic gold medalist Vasyl Lomachenko’s bid to win a world champion in his second pro fight on Saturday night in San Antonio, Texas.

“[Being an underdog] motivates me. Makes me train harder than ever when they say I’m not going to win, that I have no chance. And as you saw tonight, preparation was the big difference.

Lomachenko is a very intelligent fighter, very quick in there, so you have to work hard, be intelligent, and that’s what I did.

My experience paid off. I think we gave him a welcome to professional boxing, because it’s always a lot tougher up here in the pros. I think he found out tonight it’s not the same thing.

“Of course, I’m sorry about losing my title on the scales, but I’m ready to go to 130 and fight the champions at 130 and show that I can once again be a world champion.”

The 33-year-old Salido concluded, “I’m going to be around for a long time.”

A guy almost beat him in his second pro fight. He shouldn't be too proud, he also cheated. I'm not even a Loma fan. He was almost knocked out in the 12th by a 1 pro fight fighter.

Good win, but it is tainted because of the weight issue and the fact that Lomachenko had him in trouble in the 12th. I wonder if the boiling down in weight caused the stamina issue for Salido since we all know he has gone 12 before with no stamina issues.

I consider Saildo a tier-2 level champion. He showed it in having such a difficult time winning decisively against an amateur.
However, he did manage to pull off the win, which I expected, but against higher level tier-1 opposition, he has little chance.
The way he fought last night, Gary Russell would have destroyed him.

I haven't personally seen the fight yet but I think there could be a rematch on the cards once Lomachenko has had another 10 fights or so.

He gave him a lesson on how NOT to behave like a pro, in every aspect. He's right, good lesson.

Lomancheko didn't deserve a world title shot, at only his 2nd pro fight.

It's not fair to past Olympic Gold medalists like Sugar Ray Leonard, Meldrick Taylor, Pernel Whitaker etc. to have atleast about 20 pro fights before they fought for a world title,

yet Lomanchenko gets a title shot with only 1 pro fight on his record?:patsch

This is why Salido played tricks on Lomanchenko, because with only 1 pro fight, Lomachenko didnt have bargaining power and could not have strong clauses in the fight contract, which is why Salido played tricks on him and his Team, by coming overweight and Lomachenko could hardly do anything about it.

    Team Salido owned Team Lomachenko.:smoke:rasta:hat

I liked In Jin Chi's style of fighting.

    He's one tough rugged fighter.

I also like Provodnokiv's style of fighting too.
