it was a good result, considering joe had owned an unknown belt for so long and had done virtually nothing with it in those 10 years of waste.


in essence it was the equivalent of the commonwealth champion beating a world champ (albeit a very weak world champ), so no wonder people thought joe would lose.

but joe proved he could step up to world level that night, and once more in his next fight.

 

So many people counted Calzaghe out in that fight. I was one who kept telling everyone that it wasnt gonna happen like that. Joe ran him over. The technique, hand speed and boxing savvy were beyond too much for Lacy
