If a sheep is following a herd, it must be blind, at the least.

I do love how a ******ed thread such as this will last months while those on Armstrong, Benny Leonard or Arguello are here and gone in a day...

He fought and beat all there was to fight and beat at the time. Never ducked anyone, was never beaten and rematched those who gave him the most trouble only to beat them even more convincingly. There is nothing more you can ask of a fighter.

Yes he didn't have great longevity but fought the exact same amount of Championship defences as Dempsey. Except Rocky did it in 2-3 years while Dempsey did in 6-7 years. He was also one of the few to retire on his terms. People like to trash him because his greatest opponents were either old or ex this and that. Mayweather was an ex Feather, is going on 37 and is still far and away ahead of the pack. Bull**** double standards.

The reason Marciano's opponents are regarded as sub-par is because Marciano made them look like they were sub-par.

The reason Ali's opponents are regarded as great is because some of them beat Ali. So ironically, Ali is considered greater than Marciano because he lost to Norton, Frazier and Spinks, and won the rematches.

Marciano always got it right the first time and so that's bad. Losing is good; being undefeated is bad. That's the logic of the fans who diminish Marciano's record.

Marciano's competition and Ali's is no comparison. Apple and oranges. Ali's competition didn't consist of 100% old geezers. Don't pick and choose statistics without putting them in context.

I guess Calzaghe is the greatest then according to your logic (but he did get a gift vs Bernard)

The guy who came up with this thread is the smartest guy here besides me of course. Marciano is the most overrated fighter in boxing history period regardless of weight class.
