Do you know anyone who bet money on Douglas to beat Tyson?

Complete surprise. I wasn't able to watch the fight, and I didn't even bother to put in a videotape to record it. When I first saw the result in the Sunday paper, I thought it said that Tyson won by KO. I looked again and it read 'Tyson KOd' and still couldn't believe it.

 

As mentioned The Mirage offered 42/1 on a Douglas win. This was only because they agreed to take on a big (possible seven figure) bet on a Tyson win. The odds got that high because they struggled to balance the book.

The reality at the time was people only bet on under/over of a Tyson bout, hence the reason no other big Vegas hotel offered odds on a Douglas/Tyson win.

I bet big on Douglas, however, I only did because of the odds. I had scouted Tyson since he was 17, I had bet on him and made money on him with Berbick, Holmes, Spinks and Biggs at least if memory serves correct.

The odds got so bad on Tyson that I had a feeling about Douglas but only because of the odds. Well not only, Douglas had shown skills in giving Tony Tucker a run for his money in the previous years. That jab he had was world class when he was on. The final factor was RUMMOUR came out of Tysons camp that he was knocked down for the very first time in sparring for the Douglas fight. Not only that, the gossip was Tyson was knocked down because he was in part out of shape and not as focused as he had been on defense and staying within himself.

As soon I saw the odds I switched and bet Douglas simply because it was foolish to bet Tyson unless you were prepared to drop a mill.

I bet 100 on Douglas ready to lose It after working out how much I would get for putting 100 on Tyson to win.

Yes I totally pretended to my buddies that I was a boxing betting god for maybe 6 months tops thereafter,,,,,

thus without the odds I never would of bet Douglas,,,, without thinking that Tyson was looking less and less motivated as time went on I would not of bet Douglas,

so yes I brag about betting Douglas over Tyson, however, I never talk about loosing 500 on Tyson vs Holy, or a couple hundred on Ruddock vs Tyson,,, I still say Ruddock should have could have been a better fighter,,,,, in his early days he had a really defensive style and I swear he was boring but AMAZING,,, his JAB was off the charts, plus his in and out quickness was fantastic,,, everyone in the know before the public became aware of him kept talking about Ruddock, then he started KNOCKING guys out like he had never before, suddenly he switched his style and abandoned his defensive jab like cautious style that was AMAZING and turned into a BRAWLER that swung for the fences,,,

I have no idea why there is not a thread about this,,,, yes sure he looked horrid against Lewis, however, he was shattered by that time, I am telling you, early in Ruddocks career he had a Chris Byrd type of thing going on and he was AMAZING,

Anyways, Ruddock gave a good showing against Tyson but he really was not a defensive fighter at that time.

but yes, I had no doubt Douglas would beat Tyson, I had a vision
