Yes. Tyson's antics pre-Lewis fight tell me he was always scared of Lewis.

I agree a Prime Lewis beats a Prime Tyson. apparently they sparred each other when they were teenagers and Cus D'mato told them they will fight for a world title one day.......and apparently lewis got the better of him in the sparring.

Probably something like 90% of prime Lewis vs 50% of prime Tyson. Tyson still had the power, chin, fast hands, and the occasional burst of closing foot speed but none of the ferocity and very little of the head movement and technique. Lewis was slower and less active than his best days, but was fairly near his prime level. The fight didn't mean anything other than money and name value.

wow lewis was at 90%????? i agree tyson's ferocity was the main thing and the way he crouched low with less head movement he was a sitting duck with that lewis uppercut which had tyson hurt early.

Tyson was washed up. He tried to act crazy to gain an edge or out of fear whatever reason he was long fizzled. His combination punching, head movement, inside fighting and jab were all gone. His stamina was good for all of 3 rounds. I'd say he was 25 percent of the original tyson of 87-89. He was a lunging one shot wide swinging brawler.

Lewis was 70 percent. He was a very large man whose attributes don't age as badly.
Tyson would have had a much better chance prime for prime but Lewis size would always be a problem. He could really hurt tyson once the explosive fresh legs of a fighter leaves him in mid fight. Tyson would not be able to handle the uppercut and the trench fighting from the larger Lewis. I could see tyson dominating early and then struggling to hang on late and prob lose a very tight decision. Tua and Morrison could do nothing with Lewis but tyson had 10x the foot speed of either of them and certaintly had game changing power. A classic what if match up. But as for the actual fight tyson had very little left.

Lewis always said he wanted no part of mike when they were younger

Check out the "legendary nights" show HBO did on it

Apparently the spare was pretty even but all the quotes from Lewis about it were on te lead up to their fight so I take them with a pinch of salt

One things for sure though lob them both in a ring for a professional bout in 88-89 tyson destroys him... Lennox was still learnin his trade in the amateurs then

Prime vs prime would be a great fight though... Think Lennox Height/size with the jab would always giv him tyson fits ... But if a prime tyson could bob and weave his way on the inside Lennox would be in trouble with the speed of mike

Lewis was "at the peak of his powers" and "got better with age like a fine wine."

Lewis had clearly slowed a bit, it was the fight against Tyson when I first noticed his hand speed had declined. He was still at least 90% though.

Tyson was way past his best and came in over weight he was probably 50% of the fighter he was in his prime. He was a 2-3 round fighter at this point, the head movement was not what it was, the combinations were no longer there. Tyson was still pretty fast and hit as hard as ever and if you stood in front of him like Nielsen could still tear you apart but he was a shadow of his former self.
