thats not what happened in the first fight in temecula, ca

vernon got caught with a nothing in the first round and a looping overhand right in the third and vernon was done.

what you are describing is what happened in the rematch.

    Round 5

Santa Cruz is reaching out and poking the chin of Mijares with his incisive left jab up top. Mijares gallops away from him, kicking his feet out to the side and using the full ring. Mijares actually turns his back at one point before peering over his shoulder at his pursuer and then whirling to face him and stick out some right jabs. Mijares is ducking and leaning as Santa Cruz fishes with long jabs and rights from outside. Mijares jumps in with a flurry. Santa Cruz wrestles him off after Mijares leans on him a moment.

    10-9 Santa Cruz

    50-45 Santa Cruz

Mijares looks to be in survival mode to me. Like he just wants to make it to bell. If he exchange he gets KOed

Seriously? - mainly wheezing pretty bad, cough, some sniffles, modest temp. No energy.

on paper you would never imagine Mayorga leaving the ring under his own power vs Vernon but damned if he didn't beat Forrest twice, I think somehow Mayorga intimidated Forrest with his wildness and clubbing shots and took him off his game

    Round 6

Santa Cruz is starting to find Mijares with the long straight right on the face. Mijares is taking it well but having to keep moving. Santa Cruz is putting combos together, straight rights and uppercuts behind the jab in repetition with no interruption. Mijares starts wilting on the ropes but is able to circle out and get away. Mijares is flipping his elbows up, catching some of Santa Cruz's looping body shots, then pushing out with his forearms to bar out Santa Cruz's jab. Nice defense, but not enough. Santa Cruz got through with a lot in this round and damaged Mijares.

    10-9 Santa Cruz

    60-54 Santa Cruz
