• Got outboxed by 135lb Mosley.
  
• Got a gift against Sturm.
  
• Bodyshot KO'ed by Hopkins.
  
• Schooled by Mayweather.

There is nothing "great" about de la Hoya's resume...

oscar benefitted from selective matchmaking like they all do. he either faced some of the best when they were on the way out...or at weights they were no longer effective. his best win imo was against quartey. a lot of ppl thought he lost that one. i thought he lost to whitaker. he waited until trinidad couldn't make the 147 limit anymore to face him. some of his other wins were against fighters who had already been diminished by trinidad such as campas, vargas, carr, mayorga...when he faced bhop he made him come down to 158. i also thought he did well against mosley in the rematch. he is a very good fighter...but i can't call him great with all the favorable matchmaking he benifitted from.

 

he was done by the time williams was champ.

 

The contract weight for the Hopkins fight was 157lbs.

Oscar might not have been great, but he did take on a lot of excpetional fighters.

He was never the P4P # 1 guy in the sport but he was the biggest draw and # 1 PPV star for quite some time. That's the reason his team called all the shots as far as selective matchmaking, glove and ring sizes, catchweight stipulations, etc.

When a 135-40 lb Floyd was calling him out in 2004-5, it would be interesting to hear Lampley and Steward talk about how that fight doesn't make sense for Oscar because Floyd was such a High risk-low reward type of fighter (although I disagree with that, a win over FLoyd would be a very high reward for any fighter.) That's the way the big PPV draws are for the most part, they're trying to prolong their drawing power and maximize the amount they can make before they lose.

I agree with some of the posters above, I thought Whitaker beat him as well as Quartey. I also think Sturm beat him pretty clearly but Felix wasn't going to get the nod against DLH in Las vegas, especially when that fight was the prelude to DLH fighting Hopkins later that year.

But I will say I thought he had beat Trinidad on points, but I can understand why he lost that fight since he decided to go on his bicycle for the last 3-4 rounds. It was disgraceful to watch from an undefeated champion to fight that way. He's almost always come up short in all of his biggest fights outside of a shop worn Caesar Chavez Sr, Vargas and Mayorga. But those are guys that DLH was expected to beat anyway.

Haymon technically is a manager. The networks are now the defacto promoters..

 

So if he is a manager where do his "fighters" stand when it comes to GBP events?
