Thanks fellas, I just want to keep fighting, I love my job, if I walked away now I'd have nothing to do that gives me that buzz and enjoyment, so why walk? I'm not on the slide my health is fine so why go? Just want to keep going, keep fighting and keep enjoying it, I'll be a long time retired, I'll probably win and lose some a long the way but while I still think I can give the big boys a good scrap and I still wake up looking forward to going to the gym I'll carry on, it's never been about the money, it's all about the glory, I've done what I wanted to do by winning the British title, can I squeeze a bit more out of myself and go a bit further? Maybe, maybe not, but I'm going to have a right good go, hands up chin down, let em go!

...but in the conventional hierarchy, does one not in theory graduate from "area" to "English" (or "Celtic") to "British" to "Commonwealth" and then on to international titles beyond the empire?

I could see making a case for obtaining the Lonsdale belt outright (meaning, if my understanding is correct, going 4-0 in British title bouts? Capture + three defenses?) being more prestigious than capturing the Commonwealth, but does the latter by express purpose of conceit not outrank the British itself? :huh

I genuinely think Curtis that people respect and admire what you have done to the point that the negative "can't do this ... Won't beat ...." Comments are derived from people not wanting you to undo any legacy that you have created for yourself at British level. You have won the vast majority of fight fans over who were pessimistic when you started your boxing journey (me included) and proved us all wrong. Take any negatives as a reflection of the respect you have earned from fight fans who are only trying to protect how you will be remembered.
That said Curtis it's your career, your stock has never been higher, your health and fitness is at its peak. You will earn more money in your next fight than you have in any other which ultimately your kids and wife benefit from. Who are we to deny you securing an even firmer financial future for your family. Go of it Curtis , no regrets

Best of luck to Woodhouse that win over Hamilton was epic and a cracking fight. Do i think he will go beyond the commonwealth British level i'd have to say no. He can still have some quality fights though as many mentioned Coyle a good shout, Who knows he may prove us wrong again and go another level beyond British champion, i'd very happily be proved wrong again. Anyway whatever happens best of luck to Curtis and i'm looking forward to your next fight.

    Anyone?

Excuse my Yank ignorance, but that has always nagged at me a little.

In terms of prestige, traditionally speaking, it goes something like:

    World
    Euro
    Lonsdale outright
    Commonwealth
    British
    English/Celtic
    Area

    ...yes?

Really just fuzzy on where Lonsdale & Commonwealth rank in relation to each other; with technically Commonwealth being higher than British yet obtaining it doesn't ever seem to be considered as big a deal as making the obligatory three defenses of the British to become outright champ. Is that how it's "supposed" to be or just sort of how it has developed over the years in the perception of the public?

It all depends on the opposition when winning it and defending imo, Australia and Canada can have some really decent fighters but we never see them fighting for it as much as in past years. My brother won the Commonwealth belt twice but would have ranked the British title above that if he had been successful at winning it.

The Lonsdale belt can be harder to win and keep outright but like I said it depends on the strength of the division and opposition.

I can see both sides of the argument. On one hand Curtis achieved what he set out to achieve when he swapped football for boxing, and no matter what happens will never be able to top that night. It would've been a romantic ending if he called it a day after that but then again his purses are at the highest now and once you've had a taste of a little bit of success, you invariably want more. I feel Limond is a winnable fight for Curtis, wee Willie hasn't been the same since King Khan handled him. I'd fancy Curtis to win another close decision.

Curtis, would you care to weigh in? Being a pro boxer up at the cusp of that level yourself, which to you would feel like the grander feat: grabbing the Commonwealth title (which you challenged Matthews for at 135) or defending your current belt thrice and becoming Lonsdale champ outright?
