Evander Holyfield Vs Wlad/Vitali Klitschko (Classic's Opinion)

Vitali fought Chisora at 40 years of age, or maybe 41. If Holyfield beat Chisora when he was 40 with the scorecards Vitali beat him by it would have been a good win for him. When Holyfield was 40 he was losing to shot James Toney and shot Larry Donald. Current Vitali wouldn't have lost to either of those guys at that point in their careers

I think given Vitali handled Peter and Arreola (superior pressure fighters to Chisora) as effectively as he did it would be fair to assume he really was injured in the Chisora fight, or he has faded even more since his comeback a few years ago.

I don't think it's fair to say Vitali doesn't like pressure.

 

Holyfield could beat Chisora tomorrow if they fought. People need to stop overating fighters because they have big mouths or spit in peoples faces. Chisora and Haye are both overated to hell.

 

This is true. Not even good for british heavyweights.
Chisora would probably have lasted less than 1 round against a prime Frank Bruno, and Frank would been booed out of the ring for fighting such a bum.
And Chisora is probably the best HW fighter Haye has beat, going by when he beat them.
Haye would have been chased out of the ring by Bruno too.

..... and I don't think Bruno was even very good.

 

I'd pick him to beat a 49 year-old Holyfield too.

The Holyfield who fought Sherman Williams and decrepit Brian Nielsen is finally proven completely unworthy of being considered even a fring contender. And he's been inactive for over a year.
I really think we won't see him fight again, at last.


Even the 44 year-old Holyfield of 2007 (v. Maddalone and Savarese and Ibragimov) might well beat Chisora though.

 

Well, I think Benny Leonard had a style that just wouldn't work being a cruiser-sized fighter going up into heavyweight.
Ray Robinson was a boxer-puncher par excellence, and was usually the tall rangey guy too.
IF Holyfield had stayed at cruiser we might have seen him develop a more Robinson-esque style. (That's not to say he shouldn't have been a bit smarter as a HW many times too)
But, yeah, those men were better. More fights, better records too.

I don't think Evander beats either Klitschko post about 1996. Even the Wlad who lost to Sanders would have beaten him, given that Corrie had the type of punching power, south paw style and hand speed that Evander wouldn't have brought to the table. I think it also helped that Wlad was probably complacent - Something he might not have been against a known great. Prime for prime its still a tough fight. I want to believe that Holyfield beats them both while at his best, but its no given. He'd be giving up a lot in size and against the Manny Steward version of Wlad, it would be difficult to land anything flush.

 

I personally think Chisora is a tough fighter and I've gained a fair amount of respect for him, for taking on the string of tough opponents that he's been meeting as of late. He's not elite by any means and never will be. But in the early 90's, I could see him being on par with the same version of Bert Cooper who gave Holyfield, Moorer and Mercer problems.
