So I have a bout on the weekend, im slightly worried. I found out about it a week and a half ago, at that time I was not fight fit because I had recently had a match cancelled and took a break from road work to focus on school work. I have been given mass amounts of school work to complete and I literally have been going from task to task in my bedroom for a week now aside from going to the gym.

On monday I thought "I have less than a week to train, I better go hard" So I did, monday I sweated bucketloads in the gym and the same on wednesday and I felt sharp, I shadow boxed on tuesday, I have just woke up and its 1am because I was so after school I played football (soccer) for 3 1/2 hours. Im planning on running in the morning, but it will be a day before my fight so I dont want to burn myself out so im thinking about a slow paced 2 mile jog? and then shadowboxing and maybe skipping at night? im so worried about gassing out in my fight, it happened in my last fight a year ago and I dont lots of sprint work for that, although I was probably less fit overall. I have not ran once for this fight, I last ran about 3 weeks ago for my cancelled bout. In my last fight a year ago I boxed at 64kg, now im boxing at about 62kg, so my opponent will either be small and quick, or tall and skinny (maybe quick) im hoping my skill from training for a long time yet having little bout experience will carry me through, I have developed good skills. Advice fitness wise?

Slow paced jog, eat well, 2 miles to clear your artery, NOTHING but a brisk walk/jog the day, green tea with mint and sugar as a reward

Thank you, ill go for the jog. How about a couple rounds of shadow boxing the the evening to sharpen my technique? roughly 24 hours before my fight? and also considering i've not done any roadwork for ages, am i guarenteed to gass out?

What's with your trainer man. Sometimes your legs get weary through a lot of road work so it might work out ok.

I read his post man, dude has no time. Try anything like heavy bag work two days before and you might **** yourself in the fight.

I don't know your overall fitness level. It doens't seem good. That's the biggest factor in 'gassing out.' So given your timing, good food (vegetable, steak, low cholestrol seafood, maybe some smoed slamon) and carbs (ie rice) before your run. Maybe some peanut butter fruit/ripe avacado for breakfast since you might seem a little lower energy for breakfast the day before.

If you have 48 hours to your fight, I might do a brisk 10 minute walk/jog, 3x3 on the heavy bag focusing on movement (not power), make sure to practice technique (head movement coming in), jab, half step in, half step back, pivot and circle out. Make sure to bring your hands back in a combination. Make sure the heavy bag is being hit/jabbed at person level, make sure you aren't over extending, but the heavy bag is at the end of your range (it's a stationary heavy bag, so it will be there unlike a person who might step back), make sure you are hitting your target as a person vs one spot on the heavy bag over and over (ie if your plan is to hook upstairs, don't think a hook at waste level is practice for that. Remember technique, stamina, not power.

Boiled eggs should be included in the breakfast. Avoid high fiber (beans) for fight day, and go with a high carb (pasta) vegetable mix. Only static stretching should be some variation of a bodyweight squat.

Good Luck g2g. Tell us how it turns out. Shadow boxing you can do for 6.5min the day of. Notice where your arms are, where your mistake is, whether your telegraphing your moves with your breathing, whether your arms are coming back after combination, whether your arms drop and if your opponent might stop aiming for your chin and go to your temple above or body below, make sure to give them multiple 'looks' to not let them predict your attack. Use the first round to intimidate them, and see their mistakes, if he is leaning in with his right, hook/uppercut hybrid him hard in the chin and let him know. 1-2 in and out. Don't be afraid to take a step or two OR three back, popping your jab out on the way back. 'Touch him on the right side if you go toe to toe, and hook him hard on the left'

do NOT square up and have your feet parallel. One of the best ways to conserve energy is your jab, never give him free space to move back or towards you, jab in, jab out, it helps you save your effort and energy too. A little caffeine boost like green tea 1 hr 15 min before the fight won't hurt either.

so day of...morning get up do your shadow boxing, take a walk lady da, green tea, get in the mode, go in there kick ass

If you're rotating out to your left, jab off your back foot hard, and immediately throw a jab/hook hybrid, remember a short hook is one where your hook is close to your body and the movement/torque comes off your hips. OR if you move left, take a WIDE step left, tuck your chin and turn over that right hand. Will stop him right in his tracks...key is not that wide and keep moving after you throw it, starting with a jab.

Oh and "knock the guy out in round 1" isn't always the best route. You are spending yourself more going for the KO. Just fight your fight.

There is nothing you can do to improve your level of fitness drastically in that short a time frame just do what you can and pace yourself in the fight

    This.

Remember to consume enough carbs and water before your fight. Most people **** up on the nutrition side of things so they have no energy due to eating nothing, they'll blame it on their training for some reason.

    Haha ...

We only have 2 lads in our gym that actually do any road work.

I can guarantee that most lads your age and at your level don't do any either. In fact, we are lucky to get most of them in the gym 3 times per week!!!

I watched your last video and I was impressed. You know what you are doing, so stop worrying. Chances are your opponent will be wishing he had done his road work too.

    Good luck.

I dont know why people think they have to do roadwork to be conditioned.
