Great post - literally thought this myself as it was coming out of his mouth. I think Paul Smith knows his stuff, but he tied himself in knots with that one.
Paul should stick to commentating , he is actually pretty good at it. In the ring , well the results are there for us all to see.
They always 'talk up' average British fighters...the card was poor for peak time Saturday viewing. Without going off topic though 'sky' programme quality is going downhill ...cross country running and netball on at prime viewing times at weekend. The quality of everything including boxing has droped lately on sky IMO.
It certainly was poor last night. The Fielding weight issue being the main talking point rather than the action.
The Eddie Hearn hate train continues ?? I don't see any competitors putting on the volume of shows Eddie and MR are putting on, he can only work with what he has, was the main event not an exciting fight? I personally thought it was. A lot of people are clearly forgetting the latter part of the Frank era where his fighters were never out, his upper echelon of fighters couldn't get big fights and British boxing was frankly in the doldrums. At least Eddie and MR are getting their guys out :deal Completely agree on Smith, he's a joke and he's terrified of losing to a fighter who is local, and in his mind a lesser fighter, even though its obvious Rocky would blow holes in Paul. Its a typical stunt from a parochial fool like Paul Smith. If Paul is so confident in Rockys apparent lack of ability then he should make the fight, defend the title and bank the money for an easy nights work :thumbsup
It's OK saying Eddie and Matchroom are getting their guys out, but the quality of fights are **** poor. The fighters and promoter are happy getting paid, but the fans are not because their getting robbed blind. Eddie has got a lot more to work with than most promoters, but why doesn't it show? Hearn has got far too many dates, so both him and Sky should sit down and reschedule because it's clear Hearn hasn't got enough time to prepare these bills. These bills are just being thrown together without any consideration for the fans.
Fight of the night was ringside during the rocky fielding fight Oh and spencer Oliver bragging in the bogs how he hasn't tweeted anything yet, bad weapon.
First time I have ever been to a live boxing event and left disappointed, the Bellew fight was quite good but aside from that none of the others were competitive at all. Ochieng offered nothing, Fielding's fight was boring as anything, Mitchell's opponent had no strength whatsoever and was just dominated, Brook as expected was levels above his opponent... the crowd knew how bad the card was, the only noise all night really was for Fielding and Bellew's ring walks then a little bit for Brook's ring walk and when Bellew got the stoppage.
