I'm sorry but WTF has he done and who has he beat to earn a world title shot? And to say live on air that Adamu wouldn't have lasted two rounds with him (or his brother) just stinks of a guy who 'thinks' he's a better operator than what he actually is. Pretty sure Groves is the only guy to ever stop Adamu anyway so maybe it was his medication.
I know I was thinking that he thinks quite highly of himself. There is no way that he could have Adamu out of there in two. His last five wins are Matolcsi, Samuels, Tolan, Dodson and Ambler and this entitles him to a title shot. I would say Rocky's last five wins are better. He's only got a high WBO ranking because of ******, if the Abraham fight doesn't come of soon, watch him miraculously drop in the rankings because of a) he will need to fight some one in the WBO top 10 to retain his ranking (he's ranked 3rd FFS!) b) Hearn has got a strong affiliation with IBF and c) Hearn is looking to use one of his dates for the Smith v Fielding fight, as he has already stated it would be 'wasted' on the Froch v Goves II undercard. Smith obviously doesn't want the fight, but also a man of pride so wont vacate. I can see Hearn brokering a decent purse for both in this fight and it happening late in the summer.
He's in the same boat as DeGale for me in that they'll just ignore him ultimately as the calibre of opponents he has faced is clearly not deserving of a shot at the title. He should stop messing about and get in with Fielding.
He is completely delusional. Hearn didn't exactly back him up when he was talking about Abraham. The other thing is that surely he needs to beat someone else before he gets the shot unless Arthur is looking for a really, really easy fight.
I like Paul Smith as he always came across as a no messing sort of character, but he was acting like a right entitled little princess last night. Smith was talking about world title shots, but he lost to DeGale who himself hasn't got a title shot yet and George Groves who just got one last November, so Smith should be still at domestic level. The thing is he said he wants to win the Lonsdale belt outright, but he could have won it outright last year when Frank ****** got him a winnable title defence against Luke Blackledge. Smith would have beaten Blackledge comfortably IMO and then he could have looked at making the Abraham fight, but now he will have a tougher British defence in Rocky Fielding, if Abraham doesn't pick him as a voluntary opponent.
Every world champion batters him, he got destroyed by Groves and Degale, Groves is world level that fight with Smith shows how far Paul is of world level any world champion get's him out in 5
Don't see what's so wrong with a boxer showing a bit of self-belief and wanting a world title shot, he's hardly going to say 'Ok I'll fight Fielding straight away because after all I am only domestic level.'
Its not self belief though, to want something before you have got anywhere near earning it. Self belief would have been 'I am happy to fight Rocky Fielding any time and place or any other super middle weight domestically'
