The truth was both fighters didn't do much enough to beat each other. The score 114-114 from one of the judges was reasonable and fair.

Defo agree with the OP.. Too many over reactions. Personally I just think Herrera was all wrong for garcia. A good come forward fighter with a solid chin who was game on the night made it real hard for garcia. Every good fighter has a poor fight and this was Garcias. In all honesty, with garcia being champ, fighting in Rico against a Mexican, Herrera was always gonna need a KO to win or at least a complete shut out, which it wasn't so although unfair, I don't think the result was unexpected.

Take in to account all the low blows and ******ed KD in the 11th and Matthysse would have won easy on the cards..

Herrera is a fantastic fighter. He really is El Maestro. The guy peppered Danny with old school boxing moves all night, especially jabs to the body that you rarely see. The open scoring sucked as usual. They announced the scores a round late and it was very awkward to the way the Showtime announcers all had scores in favor of Herrera, and the way Bernstein fumbled around the official scores as they were read lets just say it messed up the mood of the telecast. I did like how Paulie Malignaggi scored a 10-10 round in the fight. Malignaggi pretty much saved that broadcast.

This reminds me a lot of Floyd Canelo, 114-114 and 116-112 scorecards, where the hometown undefeated champ gets the close rounds and a majority decision. The difference being that here there was open scoring and I thought Herrera deserved to win here more than Canelo vs Floyd due to Herrera's sustained body attack and impressive distribution of punches throughout the bout.

Danny struggled to make weight and it was a factor. He was literally starving himself to make weight and you could tell. I think that was why Angel was more subdued going into this fight than in the past. Danny couldn't keep up with Herrera. Danny Garcia as a fighter is more humble than Angel, but at the weigh-in, Danny said he's gunna "tear your ass up" to Herrera. So I'm a little conflicted about Danny Garcia at the moment. This was a fight that he survived, not a fight that he won. He "got the decision" just like many fighters get decisions, but this was billed as Angel's return to PR, and Danny's too, even though Danny was born in America.

Angel Garcia talks a lot, and he talked a lot about what Danny was gunna do to Herrera, but Herrera was more impressive, and Danny Garcia did not look like the better fighter. After the fight, Danny made excuses about the weight and Angel talked about Herrera's dirty tactics, excuses excuse excuses. Angel can talk all he wants, but Danny didn't give Zab Judah a rematch after a tough fight, he fought Morales a second time which was absurd. Danny goes to PR and gives a struggling weight-drained underwhelming performance. He sucked it up and got through 12 rounds, but this was a struggle for Danny Garcia. And I think for all he was praised when he knocked out Khan, after a fight like this he's going to get criticized. Herrera stole the show, and just didn't get a decision. I really like el Maestro and can't wait to see him fight again.

I find it funny that all the talk is about Danny going up to 147 to fight Mayweather, I don't think him going up to 147 has anything to do with Mayweather, it's more that he just barely can make 140. However I thought if anyone deserve to fight Mayweather at 147, it's Herrera. Herrera could probably do that to FMJ, but would probably not get the decision. That's where boxing is right now, the fighters that are more well known get decisions.

Herrera won the fight, he is the new champion. Bought off judges can't give Garcia the win, the fans aren't fooled by crooked promoters.............

Fair enough, but he is dirty and didn't CLEARLY beat Matthysse.
So if he gets to 35-0 and that's a BIG if ( he will be a small WW), he will be really 33-2:hey
