Chavez Jr: does he have too much balls for his own good?

Chavez so far is the only boxer with a name who is willing to face ¨the beast from Kazhakstan¨, meanwhile all the MW top dogs (Martinez, Quillin, Sturm, Murray etc) are terrified at the very mention of GGG's name and crying in the corner like little girls.

This is a bold and very dangerous move by ganja kid, Chavez' cast iron chin might be a double edged sword here, because being as unKOable as he is, instead of getting a nice canvas nap in the middle rounds (like the average GGG opponent), he could take severe damage for 12 rounds that could very well end his career.

This isn't the first time Chavez shows too much balls for his own good, remember this guy has zero amateur experience, he's been learning on the job, and eventhough he's beaten solid fighters like Duddy, Andy Lee and Rubio, it was pretty clear he wasn't ready to face the then #3 P4P. Jr. could have ducked Martinez forever if he wanted (just like Sergio has been ducking GGG forever, hiding behind his promoter), but Chavez demanded that fight.

Chavez fought in the worst shape of his life against Vera and got a gift decission, he rematched Vera immediately and beat him clearly the 2nd time around. Other fighters who get gift decissions usually turn down rematches, specially if they're against high risk/low reward fighters (watch Danny Garcia never rematching Herrera after this weekend's fiasco)

In short, Chavez is probably shortening his career and endangering his stock by having too much balls. He should probably learn from Mayweather's example and learn how to cherrypick, you know, picking fighters who pose absolutely no threat for him but whose names look good on paper. Other fighters have no option but to fight whoever they're told, but Chavez is still a cash cow and he's in a position where he could cherrypick. ¨The best/most skilled fighter in the world¨ does it all the time, so why not Jr who has limited skills and has survived so far thanks to his iron chin mostly?

No, he just knows it's caching out time for him before he loses to some gatekeeper SMW and the judges don't save him.
And he even might end Golovkin's KO streak, because junior is by far the biggest he ever faced and has a really good chin.

    Cashing out against GGG? hardly
He could probably make as much money fighting another Vera level opponent
GGG is a very high risk / low reward match for anyone, that's why he's so avoided. Nobody wants to get flattened for little $$$
Nah, most likely Chavez is trying to prove something here again, and it might backfire on him, again. He's literally picking one of the hardest matches he could take in 3 divisions, if not THE hardest

Arum and Jr both know that to salvage his career as a A-side PPV guy, he needs to be in exciting fights with exciting and popular fighters.

Losing to GGG wont be the end of anything, he does have a chin and can bang - so as long as its an exciting action fight with some drama there are always rematches, and people will even be interested again to see his comeback.

If he wins, he is back on the A-side of the financial equation for Vegas fights with Froch/Ward/etc. GGG fight is a win-win, as long as Jr looks good and makes it a fun fight.

Few people would pay to watch a Ward/Jr fight, Froch would be A-side if he beats Groves in front of 80k people, looking bad vs a Kessler or some unknown in the US guy would be death on his career.

Plus, HBO not willing to put up big purses for Vera types anymore. GGG really is the best fight for Chavez at this point. Plus hes not low reward anymore - I bet GGG/Chavez far outsells Canelo/Angulo. 500k-650k PPV for this fight. Its truly the Immovable Object versus the Unstoppable Force.

I beg to differ with you. He has been a known diuretics cheat. He is known to outweigh his opponents almost 20lbs on fight night including LEe, Zbik and Rubio. He has the most powerful promoter in boxing and they protected him perfectly up to the duddy fight. There have also been very suspicious circumstances around his fights in Texas (1 where he wasn't tested, the other where he wasn't alone with the doctor). He has his ring size usually at the smallest possible style when in against certain opponents and he has also been smoking marijuana around the biggest fight in his career. Then on top of that, he has been awarded some very unfair decisions where he was the hometown fighter. His professionalism is appaling in the Vera (first fight) and lack of attendance with Freddie Roach in the Martinez fight. Now he is being mentioned along a middleweight great - but of course that middleweight like all of JR's opponents has to hand over the advantage by coming up to 168 where again Jr will be the hometown fighter.

In my opinion he has all the advantages all of the time.
Now I will say this much, he has a great chin but again would be nice to see him in with someone his own size.

I'll say i again, i agree 100% with OP. this is the worst fight for chavez and the reason is because his unbelievable chin. its better to get KO'd early to mid rounds than to take a long sustained terrible beating. thats what jr will take, a long terrible terrible career changing and possilbly ending 9-12 round beating.

his chin is going to ruin him if he fights ggg

    You people are clueless.

    Facts:

    - Chavez didn't want to resign with Arum before his fight with Martinez, Arum tried to play the "Re-up with me or you don't get the fight" Chavez told him to **** off.

    - His contract is almost up and Arum and HBO are afraid he's going to jump ship to SHO/Haymon/GBP. HBO wants to build up GGG by beating the dog **** out of Chavez jr so they can pass that ratings torch.

    - Once Arum loses Chavez jr and Pacquiao they are done. Why would HBO still bend over backwards for them? Mikey Garcia? Brandon Rios? Nobody gives a **** about those guys. Arum gambled with Lomachenko and lost. Top Rank is almost done. It's only a matter of time before they go belly up.

    - Top Rank is praying Bradley can beat Pacquiao because Manny is leaving at the end of the year. The problem is Bradley couldn't give away 5k tickets to people to come watch him fight. Maybe if he starts handing out $100 dollar bills he can round up enough hobos to get 3k.

First it was blood test, then it was purse split, now its Bob Arum. LOL, could you imagine Leonard making excuse after excuse or demand after demand to block the fight with Hearns/Duran/Haglar. Mayweather ducked the biggest fight in the last 30 yrs. just admit it. Even his best friend 50 cent said he ducked the fight. Give me a break.

    Seconded.

Some people should realize that there is more to boxing than a fight that never happened, wont happen, and isnt even worth talking about anymore. FMJ/PAC really, really, doesnt need to be randomly interjected into every thread.

    louie louie louie,
can you explain to me in English how floyd ducked the fight, please use facts or at least arguable points. which there are NON to support your unfounded pathetic claim.

are you saying stipulating a PED test is a way of ducking a fight when BOTH parties have to adhere to them ? is 50/50 purse split a way of ducking a fight against a inferior less earning opponent ?

you can use laymans terms if need be. If you are using the pathetic excuse that floyd KNEW paq would refuse PED testing, wha you are saying is, Floyd knew without a doubt from inside boxing sources that paq was in fact juicing..

Can you also try to explain since those negotiatins, (that team paq ended when all looked good) paq has gone straight downward in a nosedive..

would love to hear your reasoning. from past experiences i know you will not address these questions because you cannot without further making a complete fool of yourself
