Most trainers I been around will prepare for a saturday fight will train monday, Tuesday, and Wed and then rest for 2 days. My brother trains monday through thursday and then jogs at 6am on Friday before fighting on Saturday. He believes that you need to keep your cardio up. Overtraining?

  2. It's a matter of what works best for the individual fighter. But most need to take a break for a day or two prior to the fight to freshen up. Also tends to make some hungrier on the night if they have a break.

Ideally, he should at least have a rest day on Friday.

TBH, if he is fit, it shouldn't make TOO much difference and the reality is it's only an amateur bout. If your brother feels more confident doing things this way, then I would leave him to it. It's not ideal, but it's not going to make much difference to the bout.

if you rest though, I would make sure to walk around a bit. I know for most people if they just lay around like a lazy load for a few days it takes a minute for them to get back. I would always go for a walk or something on rest days. Nothing too intense just to go out be active without working out too hard.

I used to think doing nothing for 2 days might affect me...if anything, mentally. But at the last golden gloves, I basically sat around for 2 days doing nothing. Got a bye on day 1 and 2. Then fought on day 3. Surprisingly I was faster, sharper and my conditioning was better than ever. So, from personal experience I would say a day or 2 of relaxation does a whole lotta good.

Ya I wonder if it's just mental. When you sit around and do nothing for a few days you feel like a lazy load.
