Eh... maybe. Lets see, but if he wins clearly, even this old and inactive Sergio very well may be the best controversy-free win between both of them.

Cotto could beat Wlad & he still wouldn't come close to "Tito" in PR.
(What the isle thinks about him is all that matters)

Does he make the Mt. Rushmore of all-time PR greats??
(Can anyone see Cotto taking one of those spots)

    Ortiz, Gomez, Trinidad, Benitez

im a huge fan of Cotto and Martinez but im sad that the fight was signed

Cotto is going to be too small at middleweight and even if Martinez shows up about 50% he would still beat him but if hypothetically if cotto were to win his best wins would be

Antonio Margarito = was pretty much done at the point Cotto rematched him, the eye played a big part in the fight

Shane Mosley = Close fight against a still dangerous mosley but not a prime one

Zab Judah = Good win but he had trouble in the fight and threw the odd low blow

Paulie Malignaggi = In terms of longevity this is Cottos best win. Paulie went onto win the title at 140 and then again at 147 before losing controversially to Broner and also has secured another title shot against shawn porter

Carlos Quintana = Very good win for Cotto, Quintana was undefeated and went onto defeat Paul Williams

    140 - WBO 6 defenses
    147 - WBA 4 defences - lost to Margarito
WBO 1 defence - lost to Pacquiao
154 - WBA 2 defences - lost to Mayweather then Trout

if he were to possibly win a 5th title in 4 weight classes I think that he would pretty much be on par with Trinidad

147 - IBF 15 Defences (unified with WBC in last defence)
154 - WBA 2 defences (unified with IBF)
160 - WBA 154 - lost in unification with Hopkins for WBC/IBF belts

Camacho, Whitaker, Delahoya, Vargas, Joppy, Mayorga

15 defences of his IBF 147 strap which he unified with the WBC with wins over the likes of Camacho sr, Whitaker, Delahoya (controversially), picking up the IBF/WBA 154 straps against Vargas and finally beating William Joppy for the WBA Middleweight belt before losing to Bernard Hopkins and then beating Ricardo Mayorga years before Cotto did and a lot more convincingly.

H2H Tito would knock Cotto out but if Cotto pulls a big upset win over Martinez then he deserves to be mentioned on par with Tito despite his flaws and setbacks Cotto has remained relevant unlike most fighters who suffer a loss and are never the same especially the beatings Cotto took

I'm a huge fan of Cotto but I say no.
A quick look at Trinidad's resume will confirm this.
There's nothing in Cotto's resume that will eclipse Camacho - Whitaker - ODLH - Vargas wins of Tito.

Had Cotto triumphed over Pacquiao (I'm ignoring the loss to Margarito since it will always have question marks all over it), it will be synonymous to Trinidad's win over ODLH, and maybe then it would be fair to pit these two against each other in terms of greatness, assuming Cotto wins over Sergio.

Definitely not. Tito dominated two divisions and was beginning to take over middleweight until he ran into mr executioner (top 5 atg middleweight IMO and natural middleweight) and was technically unbeaten until that point. His reign at the top was way more consistent than Cotto's and consisted of beating much better fighters. Cotto has a lot more to do than beat Martinez (who may be on the skids due to age/injuries) to even come remotely close to Trinidad.

Camacho and Whitaker were shot by the time Trinidad fought them, Cotto has several wins that are better than those.

    De la hoya beat Trinidad.

That just leaves Vargas, and Cotto's mosley win is almost just as good.

Tito's position towards Cotto is safe.
Not in the least because Cotto isn't going to win, no matter how much I like the guy.

First from the island to achieve 4 titles in 4 weight classes. That holds a lot of merit and it's not like Cotto has a **** resume. Plus he has never been accused of cheating.

tito beat a **** load of undefeated fighters. all of his titles were won against the champions defending them. most of cotto's titles were vacant when he won them. trinidad blazed a serious trail and loss to the very best in the sport outside of his weightclass.

tito beat dlh. fcuk what u heard.

I say he beats Martinez, however I do not think he will be on the same popularity level as Tito!!!
