"I don’t think you should judge Wilder as the “black Gerry Cooney” based on a few gym stories and an amateur knockout. Keep in mind that the man who supposedly “exposed” Cooney, all-time great heavyweight champ Larry Holmes, was knocked out in more than one amateur bout and also took his share of gym beatings as a young buck learning the game.

Mike Tyson was stopped in an amateur bout and knocked out in sparring. Tyson’s pro conqueror and fellow hall of famer Lennox Lewis, as well as future hall of famer Wladimir Klitschko, were both said to have “china chins” after suffering knockout losses as young pros.

Many of the heavyweights enshrined in the International Boxing Hall of Fame were knocked out more than once during their careers, including the Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Jack Dempsey, Max Baer, Max Schmeling, Jersey Joe Walcott, Ezzard Charles, Floyd Patterson and Ken Norton.

A good chin can serve a fighter well but it’s not absolutely necessary for success."

The difference is those other fighters had championship level qualities, Wilder does not. Just another man trying to defend thug Wilder and to hype him up.

    In general, that's true.

But wilder is another story. You CAN'T be knoccked out by a cruiserweight while wearing headgear and be able to resist the hardest hitters of the superheavys.

One shot is going to land, it's inevitable, you have to be able to hold on on at least two or three full force shots, because it's inevitable, someone will hit you, sooner or later.

But is Wilder, at least a defensive master, an elusive boxer with a glued high guard, mobile head and legs so mobiles, quick and strong to be able to outrun his opponents?
Nope, none of this. Wilder is as hittable as they can be, as soon as something happens he forgets about any composture and jumps around chin in the air and guard wide open.

There's no way to sugar coat it, glass, is gonna shatter.

It's the HW division. Not many guys go through a long career at HW without getting knocked out at some point.

And what was there that all of us didn't know already?

Has he balls to write about the dive, or does he pretend like it didn't happen?

    I have. I obviously don't know the guy personally, but I don't see how he's a thug.

    ?

He fights for his very sick daughter and he's a thug?

He was accused of strangling but I don't think it was that serious, he went to court July 3rd of last year and nothing happened beyond that.

If it was anything that bad, he would still be in jail right now.

He's actually a very very well mannered guy.

Why would that exclude him from being a thug? Of course he's taking care of his daughter and family, if he wasn't then obviously it would be something else. You can get charged dropped from cases anytime, it doesn't mean you are innocent. Anybody with a brain can figure out what happened in court and during the incident. He displays no manners in the ring and being well spoken doesn't mean you aren't a thug, just look at Tyson, he's the same example.

Having a little ego IN THE RING = being a thug? :nut

Fury/countless other fighters are all thugs also I presume?

If you're going to accuse him of being a thug, at least post concrete evidence. You don't know what happened in the case and neither do I. All we know is that it wasn't serious at all as nothing really came about it. He went to court and it was dismissed. End of story.

Who cares if he's a thug or not? The only thing that matters is whether or not he is packing some Grade 'A', American, bone china. Those of us with wisdom already know this answer. :deal

An accusation also doesn't mean you are guilty.

He doesn't seem like a thug at all. Comes across very well spoken and level headed in interviews imo.
