Roadwork is a funny thing, personally I used to run the same amount when i was training and if anything it caused shin splints and effected my other work in the gym so i compromised with my trainer if I could cut a half mile off the run and skip or do bag work instead. I was doing those 2.5 miles in one sitting but i guess for a seasoned pro that you should probably be running more than once a day but if you eat right and substitute it with other training instead of sitting on your ass then it could work
Roadwork is overrated. The best way to be in shape for a fight is to spar your ass off, you're training for a fight not a marathon jog. Give me a top marathon runner and put some 16oz gloves on him, I'll have him out of breath on the pads after 2 rounds.
The issue to me isn't that he's not running a lot of miles. It's that he's main issue already is his weight and how he'll come into fights not in shape. When I hear stuff like this, it just shows me his lack of discipline. If Timothy Bradley told me he only runs that many miles or Pacquiao, then I wouldn't be so appalled by it
Just as pointless, and you're going to get fitter by running and cycling anyway because you're recruiting more muscle and placing more demands on your oxygen system. Get fit for boxing by boxing, it's a VERY simple concept.
Roadwork is overrated interesting, wonder why half these boxers today have issues with stamina ! Roadwork is one of the most crucial trainings boxers need to do ..Wonder if Floyd thinks roadworks is overratted or Bernard Hopkins :huh
so.............you ever boxed before? Are you a coach by any chance ? Its unusual to think that running is not beneficial to a fighters endurance, body strength, and mental toughness. :think
Running stregthens the legs, builds up cardio capacity, and builds determination by refusing to quit because its fuggen hard work shedding excess weight the good old fashioned waythumbsup
Because they're running instead of boxing? Floyd and Bernard don't even need to be fit because of their efficient movement, the same way fat overweight Toney was still able to go 12 easily. The better you are the less fit you need to be.
In what world does running strengthen your legs? There is countless research showing that endurance running decreases strength and power. Running doesn't build cardio capacity for boxing, all it does is help you to be a slow runner for a long time. Shed weight by having some discipline at the dinner table and not allowing yourself to blow up. Determination? Running just wastes your energy and determination on running when that should be spent on your sport, boxing.
It is not overrated. It is the most natural way to get in a good condition and is also necessary for the musculature as well. Of course it is very important and proper training is what separates the true athletes from those who are less serious. Of course that the marathon runner would get exhausted in a minute if he was to box in a ring, because he uses the training methods that get him ready for his own sport, not boxing. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't do the roadwork if your profession isn't closely tied to running itself. I've never thought that I'll see someone questioning the importance of this training aspect.
Terrible ,please don't ever give work out advice .The reason these guys remain at the top is because of their discipline and old school mentality .The new school mentality is what leads to boxers like Arreola !
If running is good for your musculature then you're an incredibly weak person. Endurance work signals AMPK cell signalling and catabolism. Even in running based sports they don't do roadwork at the top level, and yet in boxing (a sport that involves no running) you think it's a good idea to run to get fit? There is zero logic there, the only time to do a bit of running like that is to shake the cobwebs out when you don't have a fight on, just to vary your training a bit. It's going to do next to nothing for your boxing fitness, and running close to a fight is idiotic and yet still a common thing in the boxing world. I love boxing but it really is a backwards ass sport.
