Floyd fans like to talk about his ATG defence, how he's basically unbeatable and a flawless fighter etc. (despite Castillo, Cotto, DLH and so on).
I watched the Augustus fight again for the first time in years and Floyd was getting tagged over and over again, he took some punishment in that fight. Augustus is better than his record suggests but he's still basically nothing more than a journeyman level fighter, and keep in mind that Floyd had plenty of pro experience at this point. Why is it then that so many fans believe Lomachenko is a hypejob with questionable defence despite losing a controversial decision to a much larger Salido (Who is a far greater opponent than Augustus), in a fight where Lomachenko took no punishment and finished on top?
Why the double standards for Floyd fans? Watching the Augustus fight makes me understand why he fights in a potshot, safety first style today. It also makes me understand why Floyd was so eager to avoid the Pac fight, an aggressive fighter throwing unorthodox punches has no issues finding Floyd. Especially a southpaw, when Augustus switched to southpaw Floyd couldn't see where punches were coming from. Floyd has good defence on the outside, on the inside he's certainly no Toney or Whitaker.

That zero indicates to some fans that he's unbeatable, but if you actually watch and understand boxing you can see Floyd is far from it. He's chosen his opponents well and marketed himself to perfection. When it comes to being in the discussion for ATG, not even close imo. Floyd looks like Broner against Augustus, if you haven't seen it check it out.

Floyd has said that the Augustus fight was the single toughest of his career.

Also the most entertaining fight of his career imo. Floyd threw a lot more punches but he was getting tagged constantly.
It was Augustus' erratic rhythm and pressure that caused Floyd all those problems, I think Floyd could see a lot of that in Pac and Pac can punch a bit as well. When asked about Floyd vs Pac I'd always pick Floyd but I can see why Floyd was so reluctant.

Pac isn't the same brand of awkward that Augustus was.

I thought Floyd dominated that fight. Sure he was getting hit but he dished out an ass whoopin that night.

Not quite, but Pac still had the erratic rhythm and stuttery/delayed left straight that Floyd couldn't see when Augustus used it.

Yea.....Floyd has had harder fights since but that was his first fight that we saw Floyd getting tagged and bloodied. He absolutely controlled that fight and got the stoppage that Augustus disputed.

Floyd arguably won every round but every round was close and competitive with Augustus landing plenty of punches. They both took an ass whoopin, Floyd was bleeding and bruised from the contest.

If he got hit so much, bloodied and bruised, then was that part of him 'controlling the fight'? The stoppage was Augustus' corner throwing in the towel because he was taking so many punches, he was never hurt by anything and he was always throwing back and landing on Floyd.

Exactly......The way Floyd times his opponents isn't just on his great reflexes.....he anticipates his opponents next move by figuring out their rhythm. Augustus was very unorthodox as is Pac but they have very different styles........however, both have a rhythm that is not easily anticipated. You have no idea what they are going to do next.

It's funny how this statement pops up in every Floyd fight thread.. Every time Floyd have a bad, close, or a fight with an ATG, someone says they see Pac in that fighter.. Someone said that in the Duran thread also..

Floyd loses to SRL: Floyd would lose because SRL have speed that Floyd can't handle.. That's why he ducked Pac.

Floyd loses to Duran: Duran will keep throwing punches every second of every round and Floyd can't handle that. That's why he ducked Pac because he dies the same thing.

Floyd had a close fight with Cotto: Floyd got hit a bunch of times and his nose was bleeding. Pac destroyed Cotto before that. Pac is faster than Cotto, so Pac will land against him too.. That's why Mayweather ducked him..

Floyd's defense is something out of this world. It's for a reason he was called pretty boy you know ;)

It's a fight....getting hit and damaged is part of the game but just because you get hit doesn't mean you can't be winning or controlling the fight. 12 rounds is a war.....The individual rounds are like mini battles......Floyd lost very few rounds to Augustus and even though Floyd showed signs of being touched up...he also laid hands on Augustus. Pac dominated Cotto when they fought.....but Manny took damage.....does that change the fact that Manny controlled the action and dominated the fight?

I don't agree, we've seen his face bloodied and bruised against journeyman Augustus, old Cotto and we've seen his body punished by Castillo, face jabbed off by DLH. He's good from the outside but he can't see punches well on the inside, someone like GGG is even better than him in that regard on the inside.
