Stop trolling Bulldog, Joe schooled Hopkins, Jones, Kessler, Lacy and all the other top super middleweights around the time. The Reid fight was close but he deservedly got the decision. Sven Ottke was afraid to leave Germany in case he saw Super Joe.

 

Joe wasn't the least bit interested in fighting Ottke because he knew he'd be made to look awful. He wasn't the least bit interested in fighting Frankie Liles either, a tall southpaw with a dangerous right hook....

Kessler hadn't fought anyone near their best, or even the names he fought past-their-best weren't particularly good at their best. Possibly the most padded record in history Kessler had going into the Joemeister fight, and most undeserved unified world champion lb4lb ever (by far). Froch was better than Kessler at the time. The division became dry as **** until Ward and Dirrell came through and Taylor moved up (history shows us Joemeister would never have faced those guys).

Maidana who is facing the #2 lb4lb best of all-time (behind James Toney). I bet he does better against Mayweather than Kessler did against Ward, and Mayweather now is a whole class and a bit above Ward then.

Both operated at world level, both have very fast hands, both have questionable wins on their records. That's where the comparison ends, I think.

Calzaghe had an excellent chin, Khan doesn't. Calzaghe could adapt and had ring IQ, Khan much less so. Calzaghe had great movement (he span Lacy round on a sixpence), whereas Khan is much more limited.

If this sounds like criticising Khan, it's not. There's no shame in being less capable than Joe Calzaghe.

 

World title fights, really? Officially, yes. But we all know Frank Waren was bringing fighters from the top 30 into the top 10 for Joemeister to face off with one or twice a year in front of 900 people at Newport Ice Rink, and both got paid handsomely by Sky (who were desperately looking for ways to break contract with Sports Network due to Joemeister's opposition and unpredictable pulling out of fights with a poorly hand so he could keep his face intact for going out on the lash on St Marys Street and Greyfriars Road).

 

When I say this, I say this as Joemeister at his absolutely very peak best (3rd round against Jones, Lacy, 1st/2nd rounds against Eubank, Veit rematch, last eight rounds against Kessler). But for most of the rest of his career he wasn't on Amir Khan's level.
