Awesome vid's, thanks for the post. Ice Skully, who use to post here, said Duran could fight in a phone booth and come out unscratched.

Dundee pretty much said the same thing, he said many people just think Duran's a brawler, but he does a lot of cute things in the ring, just look at his face after most fights, it looks like he was barely hit.

*****s are incredible... for them aesthetics trump substance, and it is this that renders

them incapable of solid debate. That someone who has never taken the chance should

merit the reward and accolades, no. These are hallowed grounds for only the greatest of

men who have proven themselves under fire against other great ones and so ***** on

you ignorant fools ......I have seen the best and Mayweather has yet to capture his

moment, and in that moment he will forever covered in Glory and remembered with the

reverence and esteem of a warrior like Roberto Duran. but not yet and maybe never. What

might have been, if the man only had the guts to make
    it so.

The problem is Floyd decided a long time ago to fight for money instead of a legacy. He could have done both, but he chose not to. Now all he does is take fights in which he's almost guaranteed to preserve his "0"

Well no it would not be anything like that at all.

Thats my problem with some of the posts. You guys misrepresent the history of the sport.

Barkley was never THE middleweight champ. He was a contender, but never the champ.

GGG beating Ward would be a MUCH bigger accomplishment then Barkley beating Hearns who himself was never great at 160.

After beating Hearns, Barkley lost his next 3 fights to Duran, Benn and Nunn. Theres no shame in losing to these guys but it shows that Barkley was a level below the best guys.

:good Did Ice Skully move to another forum? I know most of the hard core Duranoligists went over to CHB. I go back and forth between forums.

The thing that stands out for me with Duran was his ability to lean back away from shots and still be in position to counter with fast, hard, accurate combo's. He was always set to throw punches no matter what. He counters to the body better than any I've seen bar maybe SRR. His reactions were so fast and fluid but also off set/herky jerky due to him mixing in lots of faints. No one faints as good as Duran, He's the GOAT at faints. The clips of Duran on that vid I linked doesn't just display his great defence, it also shows you his brilliant ability to react almost instantly. His speed of body when countering is freaky.

The clips of Floyd on that vid are very impressive too. He looks like a little boy  I felt he deserved longer highlights though. When comparing the two you can see why Floyd would find it hard to pull they moves off vs Duran. The earlier clips of Duran at lightweight could be compared to the Floyds clips. I think from those clips Duran looks the far more dynamic and dangerous of the two when they were at the lighter weights.

What Duran had was one of the best transition from defense to offense and vise versa in the history of the sport. As for the Iceman I use to in touch with him years ago, when AOL had a boxing forum (ie 15 years ago or so) and I talked him into coming here but he left some time ago. I remember him working on a book that he would send me chapters to read, but I still don't know if that book ever got finished.

I've never met the man but he's definitely a knowledgeable poster, having fought for the lightheavyweight title and trained some fighters. I've always appreciated him taking the time to banter about boxing with me.

The majority felt Floyd lost to Castillo .

Althought Judah gave him a tough fight . Unlike Castillo , Floyd CLEARLY beat Judah .

Floyd still loses to Paul Williams . Its a matter of styles .

:good and all done with mean intentions but in a slick way. One of a kind.

It's always great reading the guy's who are/were actively involved in the
sport, especially the old timers. John Garfields stories always delivered.

Paul Williams gets outboxed by Quintana and yet he beats Mayweather. smh Williams threw a lot of punches when he was set but was slow-footed and methodical. Do you really think that Mayweather would let Williams get set to get off? Williams would be resetting all night long. I never thought Williams could beat Mayweather and the first Quintana fight confirmed it.

My favorite poster as far as being actively involved fighters was Magnasakki. He was a heavyweight boxer and became a sparring partner for the likes of Lewis, Wlad Klitschko, Foreman, Holyfield among others. His technical knowledge and general insight was amazing. What a painful job that must have been.

He had a lot of offense therefore he had a lot of defense. However, if you backed him up, he was at a disadvantage. Good clip though, looked like most of it was Davey Moore.

    Calm down, bruh.

This is boxing, not Lord Of The Rings or the Iliad. They're boxers, not superheroes or Demi-Gods.

And the irony of all this talk about 'that moment he will forever covered in Glory and remembered with the reverence and esteem of a warrior' for a guy who committed the ULTIMATE SIN and 'anti-warrior' move in competitive sports by QUITTING, is too cute.

I personally rate the two Leonard fights as a wash. The first one was one of the greatest accomplishments ever, and the second one was equally shocking in the other direction. Funny thing is the score was pretty close at the time he quite.

BTW, it's funny that this label has stuck to Duran and not Tyson, who instead of quitting bite a piece of Holyfield's ear off. That to me amounts to the same thing, maybe it's even worse.

The clip shows Duran masterfully slip punches on the back foot as well as the front foot. Did you even watch it? :rofl

:rofl Most of it was Davie Moore

I know your probably just trolling but most of It was De Jusus and Leonard then Barkley and Moore. You seem to have trouble telling the difference between black fighters? Unless you didn't know who the **** you were watching

they love to gloss that over how mediocre hearns and barkley were at 160. duran beating barkley was a decent win but it doewsnt entitle you to become a top ten atg, especially when i can name ten better fighters then roberto duran. as a matter of fact i can name 30 fighters better then duran.

the duran dead heads are dilussional.
