Golovkin looks like a smarter boxer than Taylor to me. Pavlik has also proved he can be outboxed by a smart boxer. Better boxer who also has good power and a good chin is likely to beat a guy who has the power and chin but less boxing ability. I think most people know this but some either dislike Golovkin or just judge by resume.

    You mean Pavlik - Hopkins?

LOL, if BHOP were the same age he'd do the exact same to GGG. Maybe worst with a TKO. :yep

You are right about what people feel about GGG. His hype far exceeds his accomplishments.

Hes the champs promoter whos job is to make Sergio look good and not his rivals. He basically concedes the throne and its looking likely Sergio will follow suit

Doesn't mean that GGG will get the belt and become the paper champ.

The point is Pavlik proved he can beat a good boxer or lose to a good boxer so it doesn't prove he would beat Golovkin or not.

Yes Golovkin has a massive hype but there is a reason for this. Just because his hype is bigger than his accomplishments doesn't mean he is no good and it's not his fault people hype him so much.

Middleweight is a wasteland and I'll concede Triple Duck is the likely sucessor to Martinez - if/when he beats Cotto and retires. That said, if Martinez looks good against Cotto - I think a healthy Martinez has enough to send Triple Duck back to Kazakhstan with his first "L".

The point is, GGG has never done either. He has never faced a Taylor or Hopkins level boxer to say that he could defeat either.
Personally, I don't think he could defeat that Taylor who faced Pavlik.

I'd like to see GGG against someone like Pavlik. Maybe Author Abrahams.
I don't think that AA is as good as Pavlik, but he has improved his boxing skills since Super 6.

Blah blah blah Nay_Sayer talking **** he can't back up.

At any rate, Pavlik and Golovkin don't have anything in common except they are both white MWs. Is that the only basis for comparision? They are physically and stylistically nothing alike. Pavlik was a towering abnormality with a HW wing span that aggressively jabbed people to death, the other is a more average sized technican with all around skills.

In terms of accomplishments, Pavlik has the big Taylor win for the lineal MW Championship. And Golovkin has yet to get such an opportunity as Martinez has been injury ridden and selective the last few years.

If Pavlik came up right now, I don't doubt he would be in the same boat as Golovkin. Even in his own time he got Taylor who happened to be lineal but he couldn't get the other belt holders Abraham or Sturm in the ring, he had to settle for defenses against Lockett and Rubio and weight jump against Hopkins. Hell, if Hagler came up right now he would be in that boat and probably have to consider a weight change. Difficult situation when you have Champions not fighting the top challenger and not looking to unify. Just have to be patient.

I'm not sure anymore. The way Sergio has been talking is making it sound like he might retire after Cotto no matter how well he performs which is unfortunate.

Combined with having an accomplished amateur career, looking impressive as a professional and having experts and pro boxers be complimentary of him.

He's clearly a good MW but over hyped at the moment.

True that Gplovkin hasn't faced someone at that level yet. Personally I think Golovkin is smarter and more skilled than Pavlik and would therefore likely beat him.
I also think Golovkin beats that version of Taylor that you mention because Pavlik didn't do anything vs Taylor that Golovkin couldn't also do.
