It looks like HBO had agreed a license deal for Stevenson vs Fonfara and then Al Haymon came on the scene and reneged on that deal asking for more money which HBO rightly told him to feck off. HBO made Stevenson a star and he turns around and spits in their face, hopefully he gets knocked out soon as he seems a man without honour.
Kovalev is seriously screwed now as there are no Light Heavies left for him to face. I doubt Pascal will get into the ring with him and any way he's Hopkins leftovers. Andre Ward won't ever step up to Light Heavy, would probably want Kovalev to drain himself to 168lbs which isn't gonna happen. That's about it at 175lbs, the rest of the best are with Showtime as they got Bhops, Stevenson and Shumenov. I guess the winner of Bhops/Shumenov will now fight Stevenson so maybe once that is done with we could get a unified fight for all 4 belts?
Adonis ran to SHO knowing they'd protect him form Krusher. Cleverly was brave enought to offer him a fight. Stevenson sickens me. They should be made fight each other. Rival networks his burying boxing even deeper into the dirt.
Even if Stevenson beats Hopkins/Shumenov, the problem is that Kovalev won't have any showcase fights to make himself financially marketable enough for Stevenson to bother returning to HBO to fight him. Ward is going to stay at 168 and try to get fights with Chavez, the Froch/Groves winner and GGG. You're right, Kovalev is the biggest loser here. I have a feeling he's going to be stuck with recycled super middleweights like Kessler for the rest of his contract. Anybody know how long he's locked into the HBO contract, or even if he's locked into the HBO contract?
According to dan, stevenson went to SHO for more money. Haymon gets you the big bucks without having to fight a tough fighter like kovalev.
I think Main Events signed a two fight deal with HBO, one was a interim fight which he is having at weekend and the second was supposed to be against Stevenson. Without that Stevenson fight, there's no one else for him to fight at HBO that would be acceptable unless it was Pascal. After Pascal though there is NOBODY left who is free to fight on HBO and there's no strong contenders on the rise either. It's a shame Kovalev couldn't make 168lbs as he would be fine then.
