A lot of boxers are not exactly the best when it comes to figures and Al Haymon just preys on that.

I'm guessing Haymon is probably getting more of a boxers purse then most other managers, something like 20-25% compared to 15-20%.

Now let's say he negotiates a deal from 1.3 mil to 1.5mil, hey guess what...a boxer would still end up with less $$$ even though he's getting more money as his share of the money has been reduced.

A boxer shouldn't need a Manager nowadays unless it's to find them sponsorship deals etc and they shouldn't be allowed anywhere near negotiating their purses and taking money from it.

Just get yourself a good lawyer on a fixed fee!

Well, we'll have to wait and see, but it's looking increasingly likely that one of the most anticipated fights of 2014 may fall through. Don't matter which of the two fighters you were rooting for, everyone knew this fight was supposed to happen - 4KOs each, a title each, between them turning LHW on it's head, this fight seemed to be destined...and now...

    FFS - sometimes I hate this s#it

What I feared Haymon would do. Fights not getting made is the biggest threat to boxing today.

    Agreeed.

Boxing is the best sport in the world but it's also the worst run one too.

There's no other sport where the best dont face the best but in boxing it's becoming the norm and untill that **** changes it'll never be a truly great sport it can be.

Unfortunately it's people like Al Haymon that are destroying the sport, before him it was Don King and before him it was the Mafia.

Too many leeches who prey on the poor education of boxers and bamboozle them with talk of $$$.

Fact: Haymon brings the best fights, Adonis just went to SHOWTIME for more money. Pretty sure Krusher would too if he had the chance

    Lucas/Danny
    Mayweather/Canelo
    etc etc

    Brought to you by Haymon.

No-one really knows what Haymon does, but I'm pretty sure he can't magic $s outta his ass, and since there's a limited amount of revenue going into the sport, it means that some (I'm guessing many) of his signings are gonna end up disappointed.

IMO Haymon is selling rainbows - every fighter wants to believe they can be the next FMJ- after all fighters almost depend on an unrealistic self-belief, so it can't be the hardest sell in the world.

In the long term what he's doing is probably unsustainable, but if he has sufficient financial backing to bankroll a large number of champions and Championship level gatekeepers over 3 or 4 years, and the power to sabotage or at least bid up major HBO fights, it may be enough to tip the balance in SHOs favour.

There's a lot of problem Showtime and Al Haymon will have to deal with in the future:

    1. Showtime doesn't have an unlimited budget for boxing
    2. Haymon is signing these big names, but Showtime can't pay them to fight more than twice a year.
    3. Despite having names, they rarely fight each other, which is awful for boxing.

Of course, having a lot of a lot of fighters under the same umbrella also means a recipe for corruption and fight fixing. I think we've seen quite a few of that from Haymon/Golden Boy recently.

Either way, it's not good for boxing when the best are not fighting each other or so corruptible.

As pointed out elsewhere - "etc" means "I cant think of any"

Also, Mayweather/Canelo at 152 was not a "best fight", and also Floyd does what Floyd wants. Floyd doesnt use Haymon to get fights, Haymon uses Floyd to get leverage.

Only other Haymon fight worth much was Broner/Maidana, but only because they severely underrated Maidana.

Honestly it seems to me that you are a Haymon fan, not a boxing fan. Which makes no blasted sense, but there it is.

Aw come on...FMJ - Canelo was a long, long way from being a classic, everyone who wasn't a die hard 'Nelo fan knew exactly how it'd go (and yes you can back check my posts for my prediction) so you got one good fight and 'etc etc' as examples...And it ain't a fact that Haymon makes the 'best' fights - who aired FOTY in 2013? In fact who aired most of the top candidates?

I know you're a boxing fan and you can't, in that capacity tell me that Stevenson - Kovalev isn't a must see fight.

Look, I get that people tend to have a preference for HBO or SHO fights often based on their preference of favourite fighter, and TBH I don't much give a damn who promotes the fights or airs them as long as they get made, but this is (assuming Stevenson - Kovalev doesn't get made) as clear an example of a major fight being sabotaged as it's possible to find.

Sure - if, in the end, Haymon and SHO end up controlling the sport in the US, and get the best fights made, I haven't got a problem. In the meantime however it feels like as a fan I'm suffering and missing out on big fights cos of this BS.

As a boxing fan, Kovalev/Stevenson definitely is a top 3 fight in boxing right now. Salivating for it actually.

But if you think about it under Stevenson's eye, you will realize that going to SHOWTIME will benefit his career much more than staying in HBO. He's already 36 and he wants to make as much money as he can before he retires.

If he can fight Hopkins for more money than fighting Kovalev (Which he will 99%), then why not?

Very disappointed myself, but that's how the boxing business has been for years now. Not surprised.

In Stevensons case, Haymon told him he would make him into a rap star. Oh, and he could fight Bhop and Shumenov and avoid being Krushed.

People talk about "money" but.. really, people sign to Haymon for vague but unenforceable "promises" of "opportunities" for money. If you look at his overall stable, for every fighter who breaks through and makes some real money quite a few dont make very much.
