HBO and Showtime were both offering him two fight deals. HBO was offering Fonfara and Kovalev. Showtime was offering Fonfara and Hopkins/Shumenov winner. Showtime had the bigger offer. If HBO has the bigger budget and the Kovalev fight is such a big fight, you have to wonder why their offer was smaller.

The word ducking is thrown around a lot but this is a flat out duck. He's mentioned fighting B-Hop, Ward, Froch, Bute, Pascal but has never mentioned Sergey. Flat out duck.

Boxing is a business kids, despite what people may think nobody gets punched in the face for fun. He always said he would fight kov if the money was right but HBO never put up the dough. So let's look at it from 36 year old Stevenson POV, fight a tune up then unify with kov or fight a tune up and unify with bhop for a lot more money. If HBO matched the offer from show you might have a small argument but that is not the case. Hell both guys have been talking so much smack online I thought HBO would have openned up its wallet and say "here you go guys take as much as you want". I see this more as HBO dropping the ball as anything else

See that's the thing. Showtime was offering more money and HBO could've matched the offer. Problem was, HBO wanted a confirmation that he would fight Kovalvev in the fall and he didn't want to commit, so they didn't match the offer.
