Probably not much further. His lack of experience and boxing instincts were a liability beyond his chin.
Not much further than he is now. He's an American and everybody knows that other than a few exceptions, no American over baby-middleweight can fight.
His problem wasn't a chin, his problem was a lack of boxing skill. Boxing is a martial art. It doesn't matter how big you are it matters how skilled you are first size second. In some cases being large and moderately skill will allow you to beat other low skilled fighters like Wlad. But Seth wasn't large enough. The idea of starting any other sport in your late teens or early twenties and making it to a high level is seen as laughable. Those guys like Crosby or Ovetchkin have been playing hockey before they had a pub on their nut sack. When you get hit severely you tend to go back to what you know. Seth, a former football player, went back to football and would literally try to tackle opponents around the waste and bend over (huge mistake). He lacked boxing instinct. You can start boxing at 26 and still be great if you had some boxing experience early (like marciano who had a boxing bag as a kid but never boxed until later life his late 20s). hence he already had punching power and some boxing instinct. A guy who had been in alot of bar or street fights will make a better fighter. he had everything to be a terrible boxer -slow hands and feet -big body -poor endurance -stand in one spot and slug -too big muscles Even if he got a chance against klitscko, he'd only get destroyed. He is shorter, slower, punches weaker. Think about it. Football players are the guys who need an oxygen mask on the sideline when they only play half the game of 60 minutes. Including 4 breaks in 15 minute blocks, 2 minute warnings, time-out, penalty time outs, half time and so on. Mitchell got beat up by a guy who weighed 60 pounds less than him, what are his chance of beating even a fat slob like stervine or arreola.... very low.... now a thin guy like haye... now a thin and talented taller guy like w.k. ...very very... low
He looked good for as long as he lasted against Arreola but the moment Arreola took up it up a few gears, Mitchell got flattened because his chin is horrible.
Mitchell landed a huge punch on Arreola, but Arreola walked right through it and knocked Mitchell out. He hits harder than Wilder.............Mitchell needed to make an adjustment in his defense.............
And thatÂ’s where the late start for him kicks in. Had he started earlier, he could have gone further. How far? We will never know. Had he been gifted with a better than average chin, he would have been a fun brawler. He actually made it pretty far to be honest. A top 20 something contender and he got popular really fast.
He's another Kimbo. I'm surprised Kimbo v Mitchell hasn't been arranged. HBO tried to sell Seth based on his NCAA football to boxing story. NCAA football is much bigger than boxing in this country. The ploy did not work. Seth made some good money while it lasted. I hope he saved it.
All the way to the top. After all he played American football and that is were(sp) all the best HW's are being harbored, RIGHT?
Well, he punches really hard so a chin would make him pretty dangerous...but then again, that would be like asking, "If Kermit Cintron wasn't a headcase, could he have been top 10 p4p?" Probably, but he was and always will be a headcase so it's pointless to ask. Sorry for taking the thread off course. Carry on.
