Stevenson is trying to one-up Pascal. Couldn't care less about Kovalev. Not a duck.

Kov payday bigger than Fonfarra payday, and the fight was there to be made.

Saying its about money doesnt hold water.

The Stevenson was going to fight Fonfara whether it was on HBO or Showtime. The Showtime offer was bigger. He'll get more money to fight Hopkins than he would against Kovalev as well. So money definately was a factor.

No, HBO wanted the Kovalev fight INSTEAD of the Fonfarra fight - or even before.

Stevenson said "no" and took the lower money fight, as part of a package to fight Kovalev later in the year. Then Stevenson said he wouldnt fight Kovalev, so HBO let SHO take the Fonfarra fight.

This incident has nothing to do with Fonfarra fight - that was just a stay-busy fight HBO originally agreed to buy because it was part of a package that included Kovalev fight.

If Stevenson wanted to maximize revenue, he would have immediately taken the offered Kovalev fight, and then went on to fight the SHO guys - and not have burned any bridges (with HBO or fans) in the process.

There's no possible way to know this since:

    a) we don't know what HBO had budgeted for Kovalev-Stevenson
    b) we don't know what Showtime has budgeted for a potential Hopkins-Stevenson fight (Hopkins also needs to get past Shumenov first, which isn't a sure bet)

While I'd consider it more likely that HBO was prepared to pay handsomely for Kovalev-Stevenson, which is one of the best fights in boxing to be made right now, there is simply no proof either way.

stevenson at 35 maybe trying to extend his career....fighting a dangerous fighter in kovalev wouldn't make sense.

I have *heard* but do NOT *know* that HBO was gonna pay about 2mil to him to face the Krusher - about what Ward makes. Take with grain of salt, because I dont have a impeccable source for that. Its just gossip/hearsay... but it does sound about right.

yvon michel (gym promotions) taking stevenson to showtime could hurt his other fighter's chances of getting an hbo date....good for other new fighters trying to break in i guess.

Yeah. Expect to see more Banner/ME guys this fall on HBO.GYM going to be persona non grata after this unless they do a 180 and do the Krusher/Stevenson fight.

Silver lining - we may well see more Stevens and Provodnikov later this year because of this.

Well we know Showitme is paying him more for the Fonfara fight. So I guess we'll just have to see if HBO offers him more for the Kovalev than Showtime does for a fight with Hopkins.

No money will make Stevenson fight Kovalev. Just like $40 million wasn't enough for Pacquiao.

    No it doesn't.

No he wouldn't. Hopkins' name is a lot more recognized by Stevenson's fanbase than Fonfara & Kovalev. Who puts 20 000 bums in seats at the Bell Centre? Stevenson's fanbase.

Fukk back off to the kitchen you weak ****, women are waiting for you to get dinner ready. :deal
